Chains is hilarious, but if not for Gemberling and the Emperor dude to play the "straight faced" dude, the comedy wouldn't work so incredibly well.  Seriously, everything Chains does makes me laugh.

hm.. hard totell cuz of the wierd kinda cheesy for lack of better word props they use. its probz a cheap kids toy knife but idk if its suppose to be "real" in the show.

in the commentary they apologized to kevin smith but said he's not known for his cinematography

as to why he didn't grab gemberling, i don't know, because he's an idiot and it was funny

For true.  That episode was nothing but hilarious filler.  It didn't further the plot by so much as a single frame, but I wouldn't have it any other way!
