Archer Season One Discussion

[ Edited ]
with the new show having officially begun, i thought it was time for a hard dicking, bare backing, ball slapping episode discussion thread. that lana sure has a mouth on her. i love a woman who talks dirty.

initial reaction: this may turn out to be their best show. all the voice actors appear to be perfect fits, but i guess we knew that after the pilot. i thought the writing for frisky dingo was brilliant, but i think we're seeing even better writing here. i completely understand why adam wanted to do the show for fx. your thoughts?

The new ep was great. I can tell we're going to be seeing a lot of Archer messing with Cyril which is a riot. Lana is great. It's about time one of their shows had a woman that is smart and can kick some **meep**. I agree about the writing... it's great. A little hard to compare to Dingo since it's more grounded in reality, but still outrageous.  I can't wait to see more. The show is already going strong with the first two episodes.

Press releases are usually overly congratulatory but if they're bothering to put out a ratings press release at all that must mean FX is happy.

FX is indeed happy. It's also getting great reviews.

It's about time these guys get the cred they deserve.

i believe frisky dingo received some good reviews, too. archer being on fx instead of cartoon network has likely led some others to view them as more credible artists now, though.

Dingo did get good reviews from critics that saw it. It just didn't get enough exposure. FX has been advertising the hell out of Archer so the buzz has been high for it. I was expecting Archer to have a niche of critics that would love it, but there have been good mainstream critic reviews as well. Obviously that doesn't automatically mean success, but it's a good sign. That and the fact that FX isn't just tossing it out lightly to see if there's anything too it. They've been behind it 100% from the beginning.

I finally saw the new episode.  I don't get FX so I had to wait for the internet to provide viewing opportunities.

I loved it, and I especially liked Pam and Carol working together.  I had high expectations, and this episode definitely met them.

Yeah I just got finished watching the first 2 episodes and I love it. H. Jon Benjamin didn't disappoint at all. I love that whole love triangle between Archer, Lana and Cyril. I can see this series doing really well too. Excellent writing with the comedy. Plus just like Frisky Dingo, I really like the artstyle. Can't wait for the next one.

One reason why I know it was awesome is that the phrase "That was totally ninja!" made it into my casual vocabulary among Frisky Dingo gems such as "Ka-kow!"

did you happen to get a title for this episode? my guide shows that the pilot is entitled "mole hunt" and tonight's episode is "diversity hire."

Pilot (101): Mole Hunt

102: Training Day

103: Diversity Hire

Diversity Hire was great. Also that "Crystal like the champagne" joke? Boondocks did that already. Unless this was a Boondocks reference.

i immediately thought of the boondocks, too. i wonder if name changes will be a regular thing for her over the course of the season. that's two already.

i was kinda hoping "conway" would stick around for awhile. i'd love to see him out in the field with archer, but i guess the other jokes that were used in this episode would get old pretty quickly.

Tonight's episode was hilarious. My favorite yet. Everything Archer said was cracking me up. And Cheryl\Carol\Crystal is so Grace.

To me, she plays like a combination between Grace and Xander's secretary (can't remember the name at the moment) and is thus hilarious.

It'd actually be pretty awesome to see Conway later on. If there's a plot to the show, there is, like there was in Frisky.

It took me an episode and a half to warm up to this show. I find it majorly hilarious. I think I will keep watching the rest of the season. :smileyvery-happy:

Yeah. i'm sure he'll pop up again. I want to see him as a recurring nemesis of Archer's... with a robot hand after Lana so awesomely yanked it off.

I thought the first two episodes were funny seeing that its a new series. Its some times rare to have a new show to become that funny on only the first two episodes, I believe this will continue to be one of the best series.

Do you guys think that with the success of this show, maybe FX will pickup Frisky Dingo episodes, show them, and then maybe a season 3 will be made? Or maybe they could do that Xtacles spinoff...?

Either way, even if they stick with just Archer, I'd be happy because this show is just so **meep** funny. I also agree that Carol/Cristal is kind of the Grace of the show but not so much fixed on one guy like Grace was but more so just fixed on guys in general.

In case you guys don't know, the A.V. Club is covering the show as part of its TV Club:

Enjoy!

That's very unlikely. AS owns Frisky Dingo not Adam Reed and Matt Thompson.

It's too bad because in the live chat that my site held with them last week, Adam said: "If I owned the rights to the Friskyverse, I'd probably be pumping out webisodes on a daily basis..."

Do you think that [as] would ever sell the rights back to the guys?
