FX Announces Adam Reed's new show.

If you're wondering what happened to the other post... I yanked it because it wasn't supposed to be out yet. However, today I got a press release from FX about the show. Looks like they are calling it Archer now... not sure if that's permanent. I also got access to a 2min clip of the show. Unfortunately, they don't want the clip posted anywhere yet, but take my word... it looks awesome. This really looks worth getting psyched about folks. I don't think Dingo fans are going to be dissapointed. Here is the actual announcement.

FX ORDERS SIX EPISODES OF ANIMATED COMEDY SERIES

“ARCHER”

(working title)

Series Created by Adam Reed

Characters Voiced by Jon Benjamin, Chris Parnell, Aisha Tyler, Judy Greer

and Jessica Walter

Series Launches This Fall

LOS ANGELES, July 13, 2009 – FX has ordered six episodes of Archer (working title), a new half-hour animated comedy series from Adam Reed that the network will launch this fall, announced Nick Grad, Executive Vice President, Original Programming, FX.

Archer is an animated half-hour comedy set at ISIS, an international spy agency, where global crises are merely opportunities for its highly trained employees to confuse, undermine, betray and royally screw each other. The series features the voices of Jon Benjamin as suave master spy “Sterling Archer,” whose less-than-masculine code name is "Duchess”; Jessica Walter as his domineering mother and boss, “Malory”; Aisha Tyler as his ex-girlfriend, “Agent Lana Kane”; Chris Parnell as ISIS comptroller and Lana’s new love interest, “Cyril Figgis”; and Judy Greer as Malory’s lovesick secretary, “Cheryl.”

“This project has been a great surprise for us and we’re excited about adding it to our fall schedule,” said Grad. “Adam Reed has written successful animated series for Adult Swim/Cartoon Network, and he has taken this format and given it a live-action feel. It is a smart, adult comedy and the characters are given voice by a terrific cast. It clearly fits the FX brand and we believe it will find support from the fans of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

Produced by FX Productions, Archer was created by Adam Reed & Floyd County Productions. Reed previously co-created, with Matt Thompson, the animated series Frisky Dingo and Sealab 2021.

Reed said, "I've been a fairly rabid fan of FX's original programming for a long time, so I'm thrilled by the opportunity to become a part of it, and to bring our style of animation and comedy to such a fantastic line-up."

Jon Benjamin has amassed a number of voice credits on animated series including Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, Aqua Teen Hunger Force and most recently as “Carl” on Family Guy.  A longtime veteran of Saturday Night Live, Chris Parnell is enjoying a successful run in film (Anchorman) and television (30 Rock).  Aisha Tyler’s television comedy credits include Friends and Reno 911!  Judy Greer’s comedy turns include It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Arrested Development, Two and a Half Men and My Name Is Earl.  Jessica Walter earned an Emmy® nomination for her role as “Lucille Bluth” in the Emmy Award winning comedy Arrested Development and she is reprising the role for the feature film adaptation of the series.

FX is the flagship general entertainment basic cable network from the Fox Networks Group. Launched in June of 1994, FX is carried in more than 95 million homes. The diverse schedule includes a growing roster of critically acclaimed and award-winning original series; an established film library with box-office hits from 20th Century Fox and other studios; and an impressive roster of acquired hit series. Thanks for the update.  I can't wait.

Does your release say anything about Reed doing a voice?

No there's nothing in the announcement about it, but he must be at least doing a side character, because he was just recently in the studio recording some voice work.

Yeah, FX sent out a second email yesterday to the sites that got the press release asking to take down the video if it had been posted, but not all have... so it's out there.

why do they want the video removed? that's pretty funny, so it'd be good publicity.

Well I don't think they wanted it up in the first place, the release came with a url and a password to view it. More for review writing I believe.

I'm with you though... It's only a couple months till the show premieres so they should be putting that clip all over the place. It speaks for itself and would do way more for the buzz than just the announcement.

"No I don't think this is a game, I think Jenga is a game"

that one line made me laugh harder than the entire Xtacles "series".

anyone else think that Archer looks similar to Xander and the mother looks very similar to Dottie? I'm pretty pumped for this show

So sad that the biggest mention Jon Benjamin gets is his part on Family Guy.

I'm just glad this isn't going to Spike...[as] doesn't need competition from Archer AND Afro (not to mention GTTV, Manswers, Deadliest Warrior, & TNA).

Yeah it will be great for them to have a full 30 min slot. Not only that but it's following Always Sunny. Most fans of that show will appreciate Adam Reed's style of humor.

Someone did link it in one of the posts in this thread. If it doesn't still work, just google "FX Archer". Some sites posted it even though FX asked them not to, so it's all over now and is pretty easy to find.

FX does a pretty good job of letting their original shows do whatever the f*ck they want. Just look at Rescue Me, Nip/Tuck, It's Always Sunny In Philidelphia, and the Shield. All great shows that show stuff NO ONE shows on cable.
