I am exited to see the show being re-run.
Maby this time we will get to Conquor of Shambala before we get cut off, right?
I had to grab my Alphonse seal T-shirt, and my Flamel necklace for the, what is it, third? Premier.

I have to wonder... if automail isn't exactly rare in the FMA universe, why such a strong reaction from Rose on seeing Ed's arm? Has she just never seen someone with automail before then? I can imagine it would be a bit unsettling seeing that for the first time, but it seemed a little much.
Sure, I've seen people stare at amputees with prosthetics, but not quite Rose's reaction.
I thought that her revulsion had more to do with her faith than anything else. To my way of thinking she was perceiving the metal arm and leg as something bad Ed had done, call it sin if you will. So she was reacting more to the idea of someone who had sinned so horribly that they had then been punished with the loss of limbs. I'm not sure why I thought that exactly though.

That's what I was thinking, too. Liore is so isolated. Ed's age as a factor makes a lot of sense, as well. Ghost, I can't help but wonder if your sin-factor reasoning in comes because we know what Ed's done? Did you have that reaction the first time around? At that point in her day, Ed does represent an antithesis of faith so I wouldn't be surprised if the thought that he was being punished by God did cross her mind. All these ideas would factor into her reaction.
Viva v.3! (and predecessors, of course)
Hail v.4!

That's a good question but I think I just always thought that.
It could also just be a general reaction to Ed. He comes across as so arrogant in this episode. What gives him the right to that stone anymore than Cornello? Ed is a demanding, self-centered snob so maybe her reaction was more against him as a person. However, I always got the impression that it was the automail she was reacting to. Certainly the shock of finding out that Al was an empty suit of armor would tend to scare the wits out of you. Maybe Ed's automail was just the rest of the iceberg.

Automail can't be that rare that Lior has never heard of it, but I'll bet it's a rarity itself there, which was probably also a contributing factor.
Knowing of automail is one thing, but actually seeing it (esp. in Ed's case, where he's young and a double-amputee) would be disconcerting to anyone who may have never seen it before. And, as someone stated so well above, the whole day had been a bit of a shock for Rose.

But doesn't Rose react before Cornello says something about sin? If she did, then I think it's just pure shock of seeing that his arms and legs weren't real. If she didn't, then I think not only was she reacting to how Ed was punished for his sins but, she might've also been a little scared of what may happen to her because she does state when she's running away from Ed and Al "They made me doubt your, Cornello. Forgive me."
Odd...I watched the ep, but I don't remember when exactly Cornello talks about sin, though I think Rose's reaction is simultaneous to Cornello's expclamation about Ed's fake limbs, then he goes off on the rant about why he was a sinner and whatnot. It's before that, though, that Cray talks about it being the will of Leto or whatever that he has to kill Ed and Al, when Al's head flies off and she sees that he's hollow. I don't think Rose is stupid, she's just been kind of deluded because she was given that flame of hope in a very dark period in her life, and followed it blindly because it eased the hurt. Now she's realizing that she may be in over her head, and the seed of doubt in her star of hope has been planted.

AS doesn't have the rights to Conqueror of Shamballa, so I'm gonna say no.
Yay new thread!
We should get it.
It was a great movie.

Oh that's really a shame Yuyu. I hope you don't have any trouble finding a replacement.
I would rewatch it but I have a ton of threads to catch up with here and some other work stuff to do. If Cray planted the idea of sin into her head that may be where I got the idea that she was so shocked because of the sin rather than the automail specifically.
