I'm assuming that this is something she's been taught for most, if not her entire, life, so it would be hard for her to imagine that the loss of Ed's limbs and Al's body were the result of anything but sin.

I don't remember Ed and Al chasing Rose...Oh wait...you mean when she leads them downstairs?  I thought Cray showed up with the gun when they were still at the altar.

I'm pretty sure they chase Rose down to Cornello's giant room. The events must be slightly different from the manga, since I read that more recently than my last viewing of "To Challenge the Sun".

Same here.  Given all the things that accumulated in that episode, it would make sense for her to think of Ed as a "sinner."

Well, I was able to get me another copy of the Vol. 1 DVD when I went to Best Buy earlier today. I'll probably rewatch the episode Thursday night so I can refresh my memory for this little discussion. :smileyhappy:

(Me being the OCD person I am. :smileytongue: ) I can't wait for more either! I've missed this oh so much!! :smileyvery-happy:

I didn't really think of that before, it may have crossed my mind the second time I saw FMA, but I think I just assumed she was reacting to everything that was going on and the whole stress of what was happening. But, now when I watch the first episode again I'm going to keep this in mind and see when she started reacting and what was going on around her. I'm glad to see FMA back on too!

Okay, I just got through rewatching the first episode. Cornello really never mentions sin in front of Rose. In fact, once things get rolling he seems to forget that Rose is standing right beside him. I think Rose first started having her doubts when Ed talks about the Sun not being a god and that if you get to close you'll just burn up. Then Cray comes along and says that that the Elrics are evil and that this is the will of God. So, really, it was Cray that may have planted the idea of Ed's missing limbs and Al's missing body as a result of sin. Cornello talks about the laws of alchemy and how Ed and Al were stupid enough to disobey those laws, but Rose doesn't understand that concept so, imo, she's relying on what she has seen and heard from Cray.

From the reaction of the shopkeeper when Al fixed the radio, we can assume that the people in Lior know nothing about alchemy or have ever even heard of it.  Does that lady who identifies Ed say that he's an alchemist?  I can't remember exactly what she says besides telling everyone that he's famous.

I think she just said that he's the famous Ed Elric and that he's well-known around the country.

She says, "That's Edward Elric, the Full Metal Alchemist. He's quite a celebrity around East City. Quite a child prodigy." And then of course everyone assumes she's talking about Al.

Don't watch it then.

In tonight's episode Cornello really pulled the wool over Rose's face.  Then her testimony to the crowd was pretty empowering.

I never did really understand how Al escaped from being beaten.  Or was it just that Ed fixed him afterwards?

I think once they heard the broadcast Al went into hiding because if you'll notice Ed was sitting on the edge of a statue and then when the mob arrives "Al" is right were the statue should be. I think Ed transmuted the statue to look like Al. Also, the Al that got attacked, his eyes were never lit up.

Yeah, Ed says something along the lines of "I know it looked like you beat him up, but that was just some scraps I made to look like him."

I haven't rewatched it yet so I'm a little fuzzy on the details.  I was thinking that Ed used the bell to make fake Al, but my husband (who just rewatched the DVD's) just said Ed did use the statue for fake Al and the bell was for the loudspeaker.
Mrs. Ling, is that duck wearing trousers? Could be . . . . You hear of paper-wrap chicken? This duck in pants.

No, no, I’m okay, I just had to take directions from a mute beav3r in a fez to get here, it’s unsettling.

Yep, thats exactly right...this is why Ed grinned later..because he knew all along that Al was out therecoming for him..

Its funny though how Al always manages to hide..because he is huge and like, really really loud when he moves..:smileytongue:

There's actually a commentary for a later ep on the DVDs where Vic, Aaron Dismuke, and Mike McFarland are doing the commentary and laughing their heads off about Al in "stealth" mode.

Personally as far as Al, what I like best is how they convey his emotions. Aaron does a magnificent job with his voice, but the animation is also superb, showing the comical facial expressions and that sort of black...wavy line...thing when he's depressed. It's hysterical.
