Well the first series had SOME cool stuff, but overall it just pales in comparison to Brotherhood and it kinda fails overall. For example, in the first anime King Bradley was Pride. What sense does that make?! If they were gonna make him Pride the least they could've done was given him a normal eye with no eyepatch or they could make it so that the eye behind the eyepatch has a power that actually has something to do with the sin pride. They could've just made him Wrath in the first one just like they did in the manga and in the second one. After all, he makes an awesome Wrath. Izumi's kid being Wrath just makes no sense. Or even better: they could've made King Bradley Father and/or made Wrath a woman. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." That would make more sense to have Wrath as a woman and Izumi's kid as Pride since Selim, a kid, was Pride in the second one. It would just fit better. After seeing both the first and second anime adaptations, it seems like with the 1st one they were trying too hard to put a different spin on the story. And FMA Brotherhood is just more dramatic and action-packed and has a better storyline, one that reveals more about the characters. One example of something Brotherhood has to offer that has this stuff would be the episodes when Mustang confronts Envy and Envy brags about killing Hughes. You get to see the angry side of Mustang, which you SHOULD see since he's the Flame Alchemist. It's not the same on the first anime. But don't get me wrong. Both animes have some advantages over one another, but overall Brotherhood wins. But one thing the 1st has over the 2nd would be the idea of the ending. In the 1st ending(Conquerer of Shamballa) because: Ed doesn't have to give up alchemy like he does in the 2nd so he still gets to be the Fullmetal Alchemist, Alphonse and Ed both get their entire bodies back, AND Al gets WAY better at alchemy and becomes more powerful. So there's that. There are pros and cons on BOTH sides.
