Why was Alphonse always stronger than Edward?

[ Edited ]

It is true. Alphonse was always able to beat Edward in a physical fight even when they were little kids.

Why is this though?

I think the reason Alphonse was always able to beat up Edward, as kids anyway, was because Alphonse was taller and bigger. I assume Alphonse's height didn't only give him height. With height, I assume Alphonse was also heavier, had bigger feet, and had more physical strength. Nobody ever mentioned how tall Alphonse was as a kid. Therefore, let's say that Alphonse at 9 years old had the average physical stats as the average 9 year old.

Edward is 1 year older and therefore 10. Edward was shorter than kids his age. But he wasn't just shorter than kids his age. It seems he was even shorter than kids younger than him. In the manga, after they come back from Izumi training, 2 neighbor boys come over to Winry's house and ask the Bros to fix their house. The manga says that the two boys are 10 and 9 years old. The 9 year old is just as tall as 9 year old Alphonse. So, we know that Alphonse is not "tall" for his age. The 10 year old brother was bigger than the two 9 year olds and Edward. It seems that the 10 year old was as big as a 10 year old should be.

So, Edward at 10 years old was shorter than kids his own age and shorter than kids at least 1 year younger than him. So, at 10, maybe he was the size of an 8 year old. That could explain why Alphonse was always able to beat up Edward. Edward was, I suppose, "weak" for his age, and had the average strength, weight, height,  and shoe size of kids at least 2 years younger than himself.

Hence, 9 year old Alphonse was able to beat up 10 year old Edward because Edward had the physical stats of an 8 year old while Alphonse had the physical stats of a 9 year old.

Alphonse always seemed much chunkier and more big boned than Edward who was pretty frail. One could attribute this to Edward's refusal to drink milk, though really it seems like a Hummer vs a Mini Cooper when it comes to Al and Ed's size and build comparison

Al's picky eating habits?

Maybe he came from one of the "smaller" components of Ho:smileytongue:  Guess that really wouldn't matter... absorbing souls shouldn't screw with reproduction.

In the end, Al was weaker than Ed, IMO.  Though in the storyline, Al was slowly losing "energy," for lack of a better term, because of the body/soul split.

Yeah. Alphonse did seem to have more girth than Edward. Logically, Alphonse would be stronger. That car example is perfect. Two cars that look alike but with an obvious size difference. Nice job!!

Well, the thing is, your opinion is wrong. It is not up to debate on who would win in a brotherly battle. The manga and anime has stated numerous times that Alphonse is the better fighter and that he would always beat Edward.

So, yeah, sorry. Your opinion is wrong. It's a fact that Alphonse is stronger than Edward.

ed, al, and winry talk about the idea that Edward might sleep so much and be as short as he is because his body is working overtime,

not just for him but for Al's lost body too.

WRONG!!

If you would learn to read and see what my topic is about, you would have known that I was talking about the Elric Brothers when they were younger before the Human Transmutation took place.

Such a pet peeve of mine when people don't read the topic and give an answer that is irrevelant to the topic.

lol I thought it was still semi relevant. Sorry. Allow me to be more detailed... I'm sure Ed's weakness for milk played a part in Al always winning their fights as kids and  it didn't help matter's after losing their body's and Ed taking on the work for both of them.

I like what was said about the hummer and the mini coop. Two similar looking cars but major differences. Really though after the loss of their body's there is no contest because all and all Alphonse is just a big tank who's only weakness is a split between sprit and body and the possibility that someone might f**k up the transformation circle on his back....

That is all I want from you.

Why do you think Ed's weakness for milk made him physically weaker than Alphonse as little kids?

Well maybe the fact that Ed always held a negative grudge towards his father. While Al has always been very optimistic about the situation. You know, healthy mind=strong body kinda thing.

What does milk have to do with their father?

I doubt their father is a valid reason to Alphonse being stronger than Edward.

You are saying that Alphonse is stronger than Edward because Alphonse drinks his milk while Edward does not drink his milk?

Im saying that a bunch of tiny little things might play the biggest part in this question.

Like milk and strong bones

or Having a positive outlook on life rather than a negative one.. That sorta thing

I'll take your "milk and strong bones". That's a good answer.

So, if you were to estimate at the time of Izumi's training, what would their physical stats be?

Alphonse(10 years old): What do you think his height, weight, and shoe size are?

Edward(11 years old): Same thing.

Remember to only answer when they were kids before the human transmutation.

Would Alphonse's "Average little boy feet" be bigger than Edward's "slightly smaller than average feet"?

That must have been so embarrassing for Edward.

His younger brother is not only taller than him.

Alphonse also weighs more and has bigger feet.

It must have been humiliating having to look for and buy shoes at a smaller size than Alphonse.

LMFAO. Not nearly as bad as it must have felt when Alphonse learned how to do alchemy without a transmutation circle

That was bad for Edward too. Edward already knew that Alphonse was better physically in every way, but at least Edward had circe alchemy.

Once Alphonse learned how to do alchemy without a transmutation circle, Edward knew that Alphonse was better physically in every way.

Alphonse is literally the "better" brother out of the two.

Imagine when they went to the doctor as kids. The doctor had to measure their height and weight.

Hearing the doctor say out loud that Alphonse is taller and heavier must have been humiliating for Edward. All that makes Alphonse stronger too.

Do you think if they were to armwrestle as kids, who would win the armwrestling match? Alphonse or Edward?

That must have been incredibly embarrassing for Edward to lose at armwrestling to Alphonse.

I wonder how the match would even go down? Would Alphonse easily pin him down? How long would the match be?

What do you think their shoe sizes were when Edward was 11 and Alphonse was 10? In terms of numbers.

Goten would be able to easily defeat them at armwrestling when Goten was only 2 years old.
