So I haven't watched anything else(yet) but I have some manga release questions. For anyone who owns the Viz english releases of the manga:

1.) I am curious, which volume begins the material after the Funimation Dub?

2.) I know some things viz changed/edited such as the Black Organization alcohol names for the first 20 volumes or so, but are there any other egregious changes?

3.) Has the viz release of the manga always read right to left as in the original japanese way? If no then when did they make the change?

I could look up the answers to the first two questions myself, and even have in the past, but I'd still appreciate a response if possible. However an answer to that last number seems to elude me no matter how hard I search. If the series was always released right to left I really would strongly consider eventually getting the manga, at least for all the post-dub stuff. Book stores around me have manga, but I've never seen Conan volumes anywhere and I don't want to order one just to check. I collect the Inuyasha manga and viz began it in a "flipped" left to right mode only to go the correct way near volume 30 and it really upset me to the point where I haven't even bought anymore of the manga past volume 39, plus now that they re-released it as a vizbig which is cheaper, larger, AND reads the proper way from the beginning of the series........yeah, that still really annoys me.......I don't want that to happen with Conan both because I doubt it would ever get a vizbig and I know it is actually MUCH longer than even Inuyasha in number of volumes. Any response would be appreciated, thanks!:smileyhappy:

EDIT: Alright not 5 minutes after I posted this I was smart enough to check youtube and a guy there actually had the first 15 volumes spread out in a row! So I JUST answered the question I wanted to know the most myself.....I feel embarassed:smileyvery-happy:

Those volumes looked pretty nice and were thankfully right to left from the beginning! I'm probably gonna start slowly collecting the manga soon then I guess I mean if I can't own the series via anime I can at least own it via manga:smileyhappy: So yeah ignore this post unless you'd like to tell me something about the other questions I had...

Well I just watched episode 112 aka the Haunted School Mystery which I found fairly humorous at times which I suppose is to be expected considering it was another Junior Detective episode. I actually assumed we wouldn't see Rachel or Richard at all but I was wrong, they were given just enough screentime to reminds us of how much of a sloppy drunk Richard is.:smileyvery-happy:

The most notable thing about this one though is it introduces the Kobayashi character who is Conan's teacher. As I've mentioned before I've watched several random later episodes of this series/read later manga chapters already so I was aware of who she was, but I had no idea she actually appeared in any dubbed episodes and after doing a bit of research this is the only one the character actually appears in. She is a somewhat recurring character though later in the series so her introduction here is worth mentioning I suppose. I think I like her hair coloring in the later episodes better though.:smileyvery-happy:

I realize I'm the only one posting in here now, but I still plan to as long as I'm watching/reading this series!:smileyvery-happy:

Anyway I watched the next three episodes which all take place at a beach! The first was pretty good but fairly standard fare overall. The other two though were a wonderful two parter that involved Rachel trying to get her parents together. I love episodes like this. I love the way all these characters interact with each other. This one actually reminded me of a two-parter I watched subbed last summer that aired years later. Richard is just awesome here! He acts so oblivious until the very end and comes out looking the same, but it is obvious he still cares for his wife....and she cares for him...so sweet:smileyhappy::smileyvery-happy:

I finished off Season 5 Disc 3 with the Mystery Writer Disapearance Two Parter. I forgot, but I actually already saw both of these episodes last year via On Demand. Honestly I didn't care for the story that much. The heavy rewrites for the dub to get around the kanji, while necessary, still took me out of the story. The biggest problem was the resolution which I found to be rather anti-climactic ultimately. Not terrible though and there were a couple of good things which I enjoyed. Looks like we get another two-parter next involving Harley/Heiji so I look forward to it. A single disc of dubbed episodes remains for me now.:smileysad:

You're not alone...

it's just I have nothing to contribute really beyond passively reading about the shows and reminiscing about when this place was a hoppin' establishment full of debauchery and alcoholism as a tribute to our leader, Richard.

Well all it has been too long but I've finally gotten around to watching more Conan tonight! I watched the Osaka Serial Murder hour special dubbed with Heiji Hattori and his girlfriend, who I've already seen in the movies and later episodes I've watched subbed randomly, but who makes her official debut here. Ah yes, Kazuha Toyama, I rather enjoyed her here. Getting the backstory on that charm they both carry was nice as it played a significant role both here and in that later episode if I recall correctly. It was fun to see her mistake Rachel as Kudo too.:smileyvery-happy: Regarding the case itself though the killer turned out to be a person I actually suspected so that was cool, though there weren't many suspects to begin with. I really liked watching this one unfold, felt like a mini-movie, very cool stuff.

One poor thing of note though, bad move making Hattori's hometown Alberta and giving the cops Canadian accents Funimation, REALLY bad move...ugghh...don't get me wrong, with only 5 or so dubbed episodes left I'm sure I'll miss it, but one thing I won't miss is the americanization. Regardless though, felt good to finally watch some Conan again!

Just watched the next 2 episodes involving Masked Yaiba and death by wasps! I enjoyed both and Richard got in some great one liners.:smileyvery-happy: I think the Masked Yaiba one was a bit better if only for the involvement from the Junior Detective League. 3 more episodes of the dub remain.:smileysad:

I just watched the final 3 dubbed episodes, a two parter involving sister murder and a disappearing weather girl! The final episode dubbed had no Richard in it though, which was disappointing. Plus it was one of those where the Japanese language/kanji is key so the dub could really only do so much. I did like the rainy atmosphere and the Junior Detective involvement, but it still felt rather slow. I enjoyed the two parter much more. It had plenty of Richard and was a rather ingenous and tragic case...like so many of the best I suppose. I actually remember randomly reading the manga chapters it was based on, but it was long enough ago to have forgotten the solution.

I've given it some though and I'm gonna watch The Phantom of Baker Street next, likely over the weekend, then give my thoughts. After that I'll slowly go on with the subs, but I won't be marking my progress here as nearly as often as I have been. I'll probably only do so when I reach cases I particularly enjoyed, or those that introduce significant characters like Haibara. Well, that's all for now I guess.

Alright I just watched The Phantom of Baker Street and thought it was very enjoyable! I was surprised by how invested I got in the premise. Watching as Conan's friends got "killed" off one by one I really felt for them. I also appreciated his father's increased role as well as Agasa. I failed to notice until this movie that the english voice for Jimmy's Dad is also Hohenheim from FMA: Brotherhood. Although a little research unveils he only had the role for this film as the old dub actor died.:smileysad: I also really loved Haibara's dub once again, it really is a shame they never made it to her introduction in the actual series in the dub. All the regulars used here were great in action. I also felt this was very dark I mean I know this series deals with murders on a regular basis but as we see the 50 kids continually drop including, as mentioned, Conan's friends and loved ones, the sense of impending doom is rather strong. The scene between Conan and the ark at the end was rather sad too, the fate of Hiroki.:smileysad: As he stands by his father at the end of the ordeal the feeling of accomplishment felt legitimately earned, which is probably the best compliment I can give the story.

The film looked great and I couldn't help but love how they dropped any attempt at not being blatantly set in Japan. I don't know much about Sherlock Holmes aside from reading a story or two back in High School, but the film left me wanting to read more!:smileyvery-happy: But yeah, great movie. I'd say it ranks up there with Captured in Her Eyes and The Last Wizard of the Century as one of my favorites so far...not that I really haven't enjoyed any of them.:smileyvery-happy: I suppose it made about as good of a send-off for the dub of the series as I could've hoped outside of not needing one at all of course. I guess I'll move on to the subs.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it!

Anyway, watched the next 2 episodes and the case was fine, Kogoro was awesome, but what really stuck out the most was the new opening song, Truth. I should've known Funimation would stop just before a new opening theme, and of course the first with Haibara:smileyvery-happy: Anyway I don't enjoy it as much as the previous opening, but it is still rather catchy and definitely enjoyable!

Well I just watched episodes 128 and 129 which involves the introduction of Haibara. Pretty good stuff, but I wish they would've split up Conan meeting her sister and then the following 2 hour episode a bit. Maybe give us a few episodes to show enough time passed for Conan not to make the connection. I was as surprised as her that he didn't. Aside from that it could've used more Kogoro, as always.:smileyvery-happy:

Fun Fact:  If Case Closed had been given it's own show folder, and it was only populated by DUI threads, it would have over 70,000 posts in it.  That's more than any of the Comedy Show folders, except maybe Metalocalypse which would be very close, if not tied.  That would be more than 12 of the active Action folders, too.

And that's just DUI threads, not the other random "Bring Back Case Closed" threads which exist in plethera of 3 or 4 post lengths throughout the vastness of the ASMB.

I'd also be Case Closed's Show Folder Helper.

And I'd be a tyrant.

That would be cool.  It's too bad Case Closed is losing in the poll.

I just voted for CC and noticed it had only 3 votes.

Case Closed is tied with Wolf's Rain now.  I wonder if it stays tied if both folders could come back.
