Isn't Eureka supposed to be mentally around the same age as Renton? So I'm sure as a "teenage" girl she must already feel awkward, then to be covered in green bumps that glow and have all the people that you love looking at you like your diseased, I'd probably be upset too.

He's nowhere near as capable or caring to Eureka as Renton is, and he knew it. He went over the deep end. Plain and simple.

he has the same thing as holland. he cant stand the fact that eureka chose renton over him. but i dont agree to much with your last statement. renton has acted like that (maybe not murderous) at times as well but he grew out of it. i say maurice can do it too

Yea the part about making Eureka feel worse didn't concern him, he just wanted Renton removed for good. He knew full well what he was doing, but you have to realize he didn't care. We could sit here and say irrational, unnacceptable, yada yada... but the point is he didn't care what others were thinking. He was obviously obsessed and being completely selfish, almost forgetting the fact that Maeter and (the other ones name?) had also been devoured in the ordeal, yet he was only out for himself at that moment...
Bad Maurice... bad... Mother says she loves you on the outside, but she secretly is afraid of you(... ok a little too far, but I for one have lost some respect with this kid because he had no backing to do this..)

As far as Maurice goes, he sure could be the poster child for birth control, but anyway I guess in that situation I don't suppose I would be to rational. Kid's minds work in strange ways.
I'm not angry, it was just uncall for!
Poor Dr. Bear!
It's not his fault he's so heavy!

Yea but eureka already knew what she was, the only thing I THOUGHT that made her feel awkward was being concerned with how renton and the others would react, because she cared for them.
edited part.

Okay, I've seen way too many people write off Renton's actions as stupid or call him stupid and I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT any longer. Here is how it is people:
Renton assumed that it was an infection or something like it. Obviously he realizes she's different, but notice that all of the glowing spots appeared over her scars from Acperience 2. It would be quite logical to assume this was some kind infection on the wound, that was swelling and needed to be cooled down(using dirt is a common natural remedy if you have nothing else). Even if she was coralian, if it was a wound it probably would've helped her because her body is mostly human after all, and she responds to treatments that work on humans. In fact, I've heard tons of speculation on the forums that this was some sort of infection or disease, in which case Renton would have been doing the right thing. What else could he do, after all? He was using the information he had availible to him and acted, in my opinion, in the most rational way possible.
As for beating his arm with a rock...he was willing to go that far to prove to Eureka that they were the same. Notice that as soon as he started doing it, it snapped Eureka right back to reality. For this reason alone I could agree with his action. It brought her out of her depression and made her realize that Renton would do anything for her, no matter how different she was. A harsh action is about ten times stronger than words, and works about ten times as fast.

i wouldve agreed with renton if he had actually had planned to accomplish anything. the way it worked out was luck IMO

Hey Magil I agree with you. I don't think what he did was stupid at all! He did what he thought would help. He would have no idea what Eureka's green lumps were, so he was just trying to help her.
As for hitting himself with a rock, I thought it was romantic. He was willing to injure himself in order to show her how much he cares and wants them to be together. And yes, it did snap her out of her funk!
