Looks like we never chose a theme for this weekend. I have a suggestion, but it's a strange one. My sister's birthday is this month, so I suggest we pick a character who is a sister for this week, if anyone wants to have a theme and not leave this week blank. Looking at the wiki, it doesn't look like we've done sisters specifically. For this potential theme, I'm using Sayu.

Beyond that, here's the list of remaining options.

The last three hair colors we used were black, silver, and blue. Since green lost to blue in a vote-off last time, I suggest that for our next color.

Looking ahead, I would like to suggest red, white and blue, patriotic, or pretty explosions for 1 July. I'm not sure how we'll fill the intervening weeks, though.

Also, I leave the following for your consideration.

I've been debating whether to bring this up or not for a few months, but the way things have gone in that time has me convinced that I should. We've had a pretty low participation rate over the last nine months. We've had less than seven full pages with only 18 people swinging by, and five of those made only one or two posts in that time. There were two people who posted, but didn't actually participate in any themes. Only nine people made 10 or more posts. There were two weeks with only one participant and another with only two participants and two others expressing interest, but not actually participating. On four different weeks, I intentionally didn't bump the thread to see if anyone else would, and nobody did. Over the last six months especially, there has been a noticeable lack of involvement in suggesting and choosing themes (nine people suggesting themes or giving input on suggested schedules, including specifying which characters the person would like to see for their birthday theme).

Where I'm going with this is that we should consider whether we want to continue this. With the advent of personal galleries for custom icons, people can have a fair variety of icons they greatly enjoy at their disposal without using the officially hosted icons, and even if some of those customs can apply for a theme, there's a little something lost on the people who don't know those characters or their shows.

Another factor is that with the large number of themes already done (over four years worth of them), it's getting more and more difficult to think up themes which have a variety of applicable icons and are interesting. This is partly due to the comparatively low number of people frequenting the thread and the lower number who make the effort to think up themes; fewer heads = fewer ideas = fewer options. This is a community thing, and while getting involved isn't always easy, it becomes substantially less enjoyable when a very few begin to monopolize the direction of the community endeavor, and I think that has contributed to the lower turnouts.

I'm not suggesting that everyone should jump ship and the thread be locked immediately. Neither do I think that the idea shouldn't be revived in the future. What I am suggesting is that if we don't see an influx of ideas and participants in the next few weeks, then we should exhaust the current list of themes, and take a break from Icon Theme Day. I suggest that we keep the birthday themes until the last month when the other themes are finished. The hair color one, unless lobbied to hold it to the same standard as the birthday themes, would be done after the next selection of a color.

I now invite opinions on this course of action.

I think if there isn't much participation by the end of July, we end it. I know for me I barely remember to come here. I don't really have any ideas to make it better.

I don't always participate because I forget, am gone, or am busy. It never occurred to me to bump it because I have it floated for myself so I can always find it.

hmmm maybe putting t on hold isnt a bad idea sadly i also tend to forget and end up comming by every other week or so =( and yeah its hard thinking of themes! if you want to continue this you could alwyas do what i did with the ADer theme day scrap everything and start over soo you can scrap those lists of themes we used and make a new list so if we had already used a theme we can use it again or something like that lol. but maybe a break wouldnt hurt maybe try and get this thread active again.

i like icon theme day i think its fun to try out diff icons lol. plus it kinda gives me a break from wearing alla my customs to wearing one of these fine icons we already have (and those poor things must be collecting dust with pretty much everyone using customs now )

  I've been too busy myself lately to really be on and keeping up with

getting new themes organized for this. For that I am sorry, I've had

to kind of ration my time here, and most of it has gone to other projects

in all honesty.

  I think that we should consider a reboot of the list, and perhaps start it in

August. By then people should have had enough of a break to want to be interested

in this again. As for custom icons, if they fit the theme I see no problem with them.

I like the idea of having different themes that can get people to check out

the existing avatars, because there really is a wide range already available.

  We can always include any July b-day themes as they arrise as well, but I think

that a break might not be a bad thing per se. I know I could use it personally.

also i was thinking if you wanted you can do wut we did with the ADer theme day. wipe the late completely clean and start over. so the list of themes we used can be used again or something.

That was what I had in mind, and in preparing for that, I went through the big list, trying to organize it and remove repeat themes. If anyone thinks that themes should be classified differently than I have them, just say why it would be a better fit elsewhere, and it can be moved. Also, if another category is needed, just say so.

Wow! That's really extensive! Well done!

I know that for the body features ones you had like a list of everything, but I was wondering what the unique features category would fit in (I'm thinking Inuyasha's dog ears... But then again, I'm not sure if there are any other characters who could be included in that category). It was just a thought.

For VA, you could also include Richard Ian Cox as well, since he's the main character of a popular series and has done VA work for other animes as well?

Maybe you could also put happy characters (although that's normally shown with Sparkly eyes)?

For show specific things, I know you mentioned "InuYasha," but could we have a separate category for Demons (although, if memory serves, it's the only show with demons in it)? Could we also have a more general "Bleach" theme (same with "FMA")?

I hope these are valid questions/suggestions!

My only concern with Richard Cox is that, if memory serves, Inu Yasha is the only [as] character he's done for which we have public icons. True, some of the other VAs have had their list of characters diminished by past icon purges, but until we decide to use one, I don't know how many characters any given VA will have. Adding Mr. Cox is worth consideration, though.
