Same thing here.

When they end anime finally I think theres gonna be a mass exodus out of here. People won't hang around to watch the newer comedy. At least the older comedy, which we didn't like back then, but looking back -- its so much better. And far more political, socially-aware, & a helluva lot smarter. The newer stuff is either faux-intellectual tripe like Xavier or other pothead fare that nobody watches.

But yeah -- they should tread carefully. Most of us here don't even watch save on Saturday nights.

I also doubt that Clone Wars will have sufficient ratings to get one of the top three slots over the multiple slots given to RC and FG tonight.

I had a single beer, but that's due, at least in part, to beer not being suitable for some of the snacks I had while watching.

That's right. I did watch Clone Wars, but I would have preferred our usual lineup. At least the fights (and there was at least one in each episode) were decent.

That doesn't even make sense dude.

The comedy wouldn't be behind any amount of episodes because they are made for Adult Swim.

Bleach is behind because Viz only dubs 1 episode a week at most. They can't go any faster than 1 per week. The process takes time but just like in Japan, Bleach airs weekly with very few breaks at this point. They could air them faster for a while but that would mean more breaks from premieres like before.

I would like to see a regular rerun slot for Bleach though.

I have never heard of any anime company dubbing an anime 1 episode at a time. Voice actors get paid by the hour so usually they do a whole season in one session. According to Tiffany Grant the average pay is around $36 an hour. So a person who has maybe one line an episode is going to read all his lines at once which will probably not even be a full hour of work.

They do some of that if it's a character who doesn't have a lot of lines per episode but the rate in which episodes are finished mixing comes to be about one per week.

Unless they do a show all at once which they can't do with an anime like Bleach.

Some companies dub long shows in batches but Viz dubs Bleach and Naruto at the rate of roughly one episode a week. That's what I hear from Kyle Hebert who works on both shows. With a long show they either have to dub in pieces by batches or dub a single episode at a time letting people who only have a few lines per episode dub batches of their lines in a session but the process for putting that work together typically goes in order so they finish episodes in order and can get them ready for broadcast if they're keeping to a "no breaks" schedule.

Regardless of the method Viz still has to take time to dub Bleach and if Adult Swim is getting the show in batches then they can only air what they have and if they catch up to Viz it means breaks.

Or do you really think Viz dubs more than around 50 or so episodes of Bleach in a year? Do you think they dub considerably more than that? Enough for Adult Swim to double premiere Bleach uninterrupted for over a year? That's around 100 episodes a year to dub. Both Naruto and Bleach are dubbed at Studiopolis in LA which Viz sub-contracts to do the work but Stuiopolis has other shows including American productions which pay more. So 50 episodes a year seems plenty reasonable to me.

But they're going to have to air quite a bit more than 50 in a year to ever catch up with Japan as long as Bleach is still running in Japan.

They did have a time when they had 2 Bleach premieres every week but that was because there was a long break between batches back then. So if you want another long break then by all means tell them to run Bleach faster. Ultimately we're still gonna be behind Japan. If you don't want to be behind Japan then just watch the subs on Hulu. It's as simple as that. Otherwise you have to wait for Viz to dub the episodes.

I have been watching the sub and reading the manga for a while so I don't have to worry about being behind. I just like to see dubbed episodes over subbed most of the time.

Viz must do things a lot different than what Section 23 and Funimation do. I still find it odd to only dub one episode at a time. I hear that Funimation voice actors are more rapid fire say your lines as fast as you can and get out. The videos that I have seen of Viz dubbing does seem to be a slower pace with people joking and sometimes having bloopers. I don't think that the bleach dub should be up to where the sub is. I just think that it should only be 1 arc behind rather than 3. Viz I know could dub more episodes if they wanted to. However I am sure there is some method behind the reason why they are dubbing they way that they do. Possibly money.

The biggest difference in their methods is Viz contracts work to studios. FUNi and Section 23 have in-house studios they almost always do their dubbing at. Viz has no such thing so they're kind of at the mercy of how quickly a busy studio can record shows.

I do believe they record shows in batches. It seems like they recorded all of InuYasha Final Act in a batch over at Ocean Studios in Vancouver, BC and that's why Viz has not published any DVDs for the series yet (among a few other reasons, like trying to get it on TV which also required waiting until Ocean had dubbed it). They used to dub Bleach in batches but now it seems like they try to finish episodes as quickly as possible in order to get at least one episode finished per week to keep up with the broadcast schedule.

I assure you there's just as much or more goofing around over at FUNi's in-house studio and Seraphim Films (Section 23's dubbing studio) as there is at Studiopolis, Ocean and really every studio out there.

The difference is in the length of the show. Short shows are dubbed differently from long ones that are not dubbed as batches.

It would be great if Viz was closer to Japan with Bleach but there's not much they can do about getting it done faster if they're contracting a studio to dub it for them especially if that studio is as busy as Studiopolis which is dubbing both Bleach and Naruto Shippuden as well as doing pre-lay recording for American cartoons and maybe some video games as well.

Meh, if anime leaves, I'll at least hold out for ATHF and things like China, IL.

If those end soon as well, I'm gone.

Sigh, no more reason to watch TV then. The only channels I really watch are CN/AS, The Weather Channel, and Comedy Central when they have Futurama on. I can live without TWC and CC as well (Don't really care for new Futurama).

The short version is -- they make more money from the live-action & original comedy junk they're spewing nowadays. Potheads buy the t-shirts online. Where as if they actually invested in anime -- supposedly the returns aren't as great because they can't make money off the merchandise.

The mid 90s-now has been a golden period for anime man. I think its an era that's now sinking. Animes going underground & online again. That can be a good thing but it also means that we're losing our more mainstream fans. I've been going to cons over the last 2-3 years because I know animes about to peak. And I wanna be in on the fun before it does.
