Bush passed a bill that counted anime with children depicted sexually as child porn. This caused drama not just for loli/shota fans but for any anime fan as almost all anime characters are under 18. Other than one arrest there hasn't been much of this so I would say it has either been revised, ignored, or dropped.  Just because I haven't seen anime companies charged with child porn or any other people who watch anime.

So in short yes the Republicans did support a ban of most anime if they supported Bush.
