2001-2005. The golden age of Adult swim

From 2001 to 2005 [adult swim] was perfect. It had those excellent shows. And that perfect balance of comedy and anime. I like both the comedy and anime of [adult swim]. But they just utterly fûcked up their lineup, they nearly annihilated the anime, and replaced the the good comedy with crappy 15 minute shows. It's like [adult swim] just took a big fat dump on my head and pïssed in my eye. (Ok, maybe not.) Anyone agree/disagree?

I've agreed with this same argument seems like a thousand times, but what the he77 I'll do it again.....It seems like {AS} cared for it's viewer back then, but now it seems they have taken the cowards, and paupers way out.....Pandering to a demographic obsessed with potty humor, and syndicated reruns, and selling out to the lowest bidder.

Meanwhile those of us who spent our sleeping hours awake to check out what Vash the Stampede, and Lupin were doing are left with the feeling that {AS} is using our blood, sweat, and tears that were mostly produced from clawing our own eyes out in disgust of their new line-ups to rinse their cracks in their bidet of British garbage, and American made clodmedy.

So now I have a query for the OP.....Do you still watch {AS}......I ask because if you do you prolly feel like I do, betrayed, but with nowhere else to go......If you don't still watch, regularly I should say, then you are a bit stronger than me in the respect that I still believe {AS} is still the lesser of the evils that are late night television......Have you ever watched a 3 hr block of Becker...I have....Now The Nanny rules the night, so I will stick to {AS} to minimize the chance that I run into her unless it's in a Family Guy reference.

Kaitlyn brought a wolf for me to fight, and refused to speak to me until I'd bested it in battle.
I did so, easily. Because there are three things that I'm the t!ts at: Barbecuing, Mega Man 2 and finding lupine pressure points.
I thought we'd mack a little after that, but she just laugh-cried manically over the wolf corpse until her face turned purple. Also, she was driving an Aztek and that's literally my only deal breaker.

I've been loyal to [adult swim] ever since it first came on. I agree with you that [adultswim] cared about their viewers. Now they just care about money. That was the very block of cartoons that got me permanently hooked to anime. And they showed some of the best anime out there. Back then, they had good, popular shows like: Futurama, Case Closed, Lupin III, Evangelion, Trigun and Cowboy Bebob, just to name a few. Now they have crap like: Drinky Crow, Squidbillies, Tim & Eric, and The Mighty Boosh. It's the crap like that that makes me turn away from [adult swim]. It's greed that's doing this. When they first aired, [adult swim] was nothing. But the more popular they got and the more money they were raking in, the more their heads were inflating. They were like, "Oh. Well, I don't think anybody stays up THAT late JUST to watch those silly japanese cartoons! These cartoons 15 minute long are here are much more funny and cheap." When, in real life we were probably more like "Hey! What the fùck, man?!"

Sorry have to disagree.  Some of the show you rail about I actually like.  And in the case of Metalocalypse, love.

Not everything is liked by everyone.  While early AS was good mostly, not all of it was great.  Just like now no one can agree on what is great, good, or mediocre.

i, too, must disagree.

like holkimcardie said, no one will ever agree on when the best time is, but with the expansion of the block into the wee morning hours (and the addition of [as] west) i now get more [as] for my buck, and it seems like these guys are trying to push for more programming and longer show runs (VB season went from 13 episodes to 16, metalocalypse 30 minute episodesup from 15 minutes, possible LDOTD 30 minute shows) I have to say that things just keep getting better and better.

AS is just as good now as ever for me. It shouldn't matter whether or not they air a lot of anime so long as they're airing quality programing. They still have more anime then any other network aside from FUNimation.

Well, you 2 have some very points. I do watch some of the comedy on occasion. Metalocalypse, Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Some episodes) and Robot Chicken are the only ones I can watch. The other 15 min ones, I can't handle, But everything else is fine (more or less). Hrmmm I guess [adult swim] is finally picking up their slack.

really good anime is getter tougher to find now-a-days.......... plus trying to find a show that will appeal to their audience is getting hard as well

they've done alot of stuff recent that i might not be a big fan of.... but all in all i still love them as much as i used to (if not more.... seeing as i first stuck around with [as] for the anime only... now im sticking for comedy and anime)

I disagree. If anything, [AS] has gotten more versitile, not worse. Just because anime doesnt air on as many nights as it used to doesnt mean [AS] itself has gotten bad. With fresh, unique and creative programming (Like Superjail!, Frisky Dingo and Drinky Crow) to go along with the previous unique and creative greats (Like Aqua Teens, Venture Brothers and Harvey Birdman), [AS] is truely evolving from a network with stand out greats to fan favorite stand out greats.

Frankly I am surprised that there is not more anime/comedy fans out there.

I for one am getting sick of the anime vs. comedy battle.

Disagree.

I still enjoy many, if not the majority of their shows.

The idea that [as] only cares about money has been floating around for quite some time. I disagree with that as well. Yes, they care about money, they need it to survive. No, it's not all they care about. I believe they're still holding true to who they are, as a network.

They have gone through changes, but they're not all bad changes. They're introducing variety. They're evolving, if anything.

There are certainly some anime that I miss severely. The truth of the matter, however, is simply that if I continued to watch them regularly since '03, I would certainly not like them so much anymore. Such as Inuyasha. The first season I loved, yet the second... Meh... This makes me glad Trigun was cancelled when it was, lest the storyline get too diluted.

when i began to watch [as].... i watched for nothing but anime.... turned my nose away from their comedy..... didnt know anything about their comedy till i though "Hey... ive been told good things about this Aqua Teen show... might as well try it out." since then ive been hooked to everything

Comedy.... Anime.... it doesnt matter....

most of my friends that i know that watch [as] though..... either watch just for the anime or just for the comedy.... never for both :smileysad: ....... trying to convince them to though...... not working too good at the moment

Who wants to know why there's not more anime on the block!?

Ok, I'll tell you: Because few people would watch it, the ratings would **BLEEP**, advertisers would drop the [as] block, then CN would sh*t a brick and cancel [as] period.

Technically, if [AS] could find an anime that had the possibility of pulling numbers similar to Bleach, I imagine there would be more anime.

Being as this is a lot more difficult than it sounds...

I don't mind the change. I've like anime since I was in grade school, and anime on adult swim was cool, but now I rather have adult swim stick to airing mostly comedy shows. When I watch anime I don't want to be skipping episodes or starting late in the series, which happens a lot to me sinice I can't keep up with watching the episodes as they are aired. Thats normally why I watch it online, or buy/borrow the box sets. I deffinatly enjoy watching comedy shows, since most of them are not in sequence. So basically for me, im satisfied with the shows being aired currently, BUT this is all just my opinion, it's what I find works.

I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

I can toleate the animated comedy shows (guess I should clear that up)....Metalacolypse, Super jail, and ATHF are some of my favs.....The others, Squids, Drinky, etc can be amusing so they don't bother me......The bane of my existance is still the live action stuff.....I've learned to ignore it, but the fact that it may show it's head at any time still grates at me.....Anyway I'm still wicha dude 2005 seems to be when we started this counter-clockwise spiral into the {AS} we see now.....What can I really say though.....I still watch it.

Of course they would; every decision they make regarding line up is about ratings. That's the point all of these guys making threads every day demanding more anime don't seem to get. It's not that [as] doesn't care about the viewers... on the contrary, [as] doesn't have a choice but to care about them. They have to play show's that people want to see in order to survive and ratings reflect that the general [as] viewer these days overwhelmingly prefers comedy. If they had 20 shows pulling ratings like Bleach then the block would be filled with anime 7 days a week and guys like me would be whining about the glory days of [as] comedy, wondering why [as] no longer gives a **BLEEP** about it's viewers.

I imagine that it can't be hard to find another anime that pulls in Bleach numbers.....But to find one that can pull those numbers while not biting a shark-sized plug out of the budget.....Yea a bit easier said than done....btw Tomazzz what does wamp mean in your neck of the woods....just curious because It is used her, but I'm not sure if they do the SAME wamping in these here parts.
