When you have solid ratings shows like Bleach, Boondocks repeats, and King Of The Hill, then factor in Brotherhood (which should be a draw just from the word of mouth from previous series) it's a battle for ratings supremacy.

At least we get the good news about the ratings being avarage on Bleach and FMA, but we need to see if Kakashi(much like Bleach and Inu Yasha combined) may have the same results ratings wise.

I don't even remember last week's episode. This week's - #13 - really plummeted for me and came back to the horribly out-of-place and painfully corny (in a bad way) humor. But who tuned in isn't nearly as significant as who comes back... if we really want to judge how popular an episode is, we have to wait until we get the ratings of the next episode. That tells us how many people actually liked it.

Anyway, I'm surprised Bleach didn't do better. They could have done a little more to advertise that it was starting over again, though - I'm sure a lot of people had no idea.

TVByTheNumbers has the top 25 18-34 shows from last week, and from that we can determine that this was this past Sunday's top 3:

1,255,000 Boondocks
1,106,000 Family Guy (11:00)
989,000 Aqua Teen

I'm skeptical until I see a link...or until I see the actual numbers on Saturday night.  If The Boondocks season premiere actually does beat Family Guy, well it will be the first time since I-don't-know-when that anyone has beat Family Guy in the ratings on Sunday night!

Get ready to witness Toonami get busted open with a mighty drill this Saturday night at 2!!!

But first, catch brand-spankin' new episodes of Attack on Titan and Bleach as Eren meets the Special Ops Squad and Ichigo's learning his Fullbring at 11:30 and Midnight respectively! How do you follow that? No better way but a WORLD PREMIERE Space Dandy episode at 12:30! Naruto: Shippuden follows at 1 with a brand-new arc, we proceed with the rumble in Enies Lobby on One Piece at 1:30, and then it's the moment which will pierce the heavens: Gurren Lagann makes its Toonami debut at 2! The Bat is at 2:30 with a US TV Premiere episode before Black Lagoon continues its final arc of the "Second Barrage" at 3 AM! Following that, more from the Forest of Death in Naruto at 3:30 and Ed and Ling are trapped in a bloody hell on Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood 4 before the Faye's debut on Bebop at 4:30! Finally, an hour of CN classics close out the night: Star Wars: The Clone Wars with more lightsaber-slingin' is at 5, and Samurai Jack goes way out West at 5:30!

Fullmetal with its second straight number 1 performance on Saturdays, and with an increase of ratings into the 400ks to boot.

Looks like it's starting to hit its stride (with Bleach maybe dropping off a bit due to its full reboot?).

YES! :smileyvery-happy:  It made me smile brightly to see this!  Brotherhood with its 2nd week on top in a row and it's new 2nd highest rating!  And it does look like Bleach's streak on the Top 3 has ended at 9 weeks, now that we're back to the beginning.  Bleach should begin to become a contender once again when we get into the Soul Society arc.  All the same, I'll bet at least one episode beat 350k, though we're probably never going to know for sure!

As for Sunday's T&E number, all that really proves is that tons of viewers turned off the TV in droves when an umpteenth-airing Squidbillies rerun came on.  I'll bet if ATHF 100 would have been 30 minutes long, or [as] had released a new Squidbillies from the vault to follow it, T&E's season finale would have gotten at least 750k.

Finally, will Brotherhood be able to make it a three-peat?  Or will the premiere ratings heavyweight 11:30 Boondocks episode beat it back to #2?  I feel that the number for the 3rd-airing Boondocks Season 3 premiere could even break 500k given that the premiere was 1255k.  And that such a thing could give a #2 FMA:B episode the boost it needs for a 500k+ #2 as well.  If that happens, we've got the first 500k+ Saturday rating of 2010, as well as the first 500k+ anime rating of 2010 to boot, but there was plenty of competition.  The Betty White-hosted SNL, which is in direct competition with Boondocks/FMA got plenty of hype, and there was also the Iron Man 2 premiere to contend with.  I guess we'll see.

On a side note, when is AS gonna promote Kekkaishi? We've gotten a new Steve Brule promo every week for the past 3 weeks, but Kekkaishi starts in 2 weeks and we haven't seen so much as a single bump. Considering that even anime fans haven't heard of Kekkaishi, I say AS needs to promote the hell out of this thing. Steve Brule already had buzz from his great Tim & Eric skits, but Kekkaishi is coming out of nowhere, and it needs promotions to put it in our heads.

Kekkaishi is still nearly 3 weeks out and had a bump last night. I expect it to get another bump or two at some point in the next two weeks or so, and maybe we'll actually see a promo for it in the week leading up to it. Maybe.

The plus side for Kekkaishi is that it was announced well in advance of broadcast (unlike Brotherhood), and it's going to be in a very nice place in the lineup, with some very strong shows leading in for it (Boondocks and Fullmetal) and a strong show following it up on the back end (Bleach). If it gets some decent promotion, then it will have been set up for success better than probably any anime to debut on the block since Bleach in 2006 at the very least. Of course, there are still question marks about whether its the right show to be able to actually achieve that success, but we'll see.

There was something about the date, or the weekend it was premiering on that would cause trouble, like what the Superbowl did to Brotherhood... is that Memorial Day weekend?

Boondocks Premier repeats made a boost to the FMA fans, which seem to be the reason of this, King of the Hill seems have still unable to make 400,000 which leaves Bleach Repeats to take the spot.

Good grief, yes.  Kekkaishi is actually premiering on Memorial Day weekend.  What the f*ck are they thinking?  Why couldn't it just wait until June 5, or start on May 22?

Some interesting things about the Boondocks #1 1255k last Sunday:

It's the first time in 33 reports (34 weeks) a show other than Family Guy took #1 on Sunday.

It's the highest rating for a non-Family Guy show since November 16, 2008, when Robot Chicken Star Wars 2 scored 1468.

I know, right? I've tried desperately to convince myself that [as] wouldn't do this without a reason of some kind, but it's becoming increasingly difficult to do so. The only possible answer I can come up with is that both shows have secretly been liscensed since late last year and the production companies set the dates without thinking while [as] only glanced at them before realizing their mistake weeks before the premiere. :smileyindifferent: Or maybe [as] really is just trying to find an excuse to dump anime for good.
