You are simply wrong. I'm not going to explain statistics and sampling theory to you. Your handwaving arguments are no substitute for the 150 years of research on sampling. I'm not a statistician in the purest sense, but much of my work involves computing the confidence intervals and margin of error based on sample size, which is something I have a lot of experience with. The 99% you're talking about is the confidence interval, and you are conflating that with margin of error. Quite frankly, you don't know what you're talking about on this subject.

Nielsen's claim of a 99% confidence interval is accurate based on a sample of 20,000 households, and that's way, way, way more than they actually need to achieve that level of confidence. But I'm not going to convince anybody that is incapable of distinguishing suspicion from evidence.

Edit: Just took a look at those pictures. That's not evidence of anything except a lack of understanding of how polls are conducted.

I took a break from my work-cation to post this, so I hope you're all happy, all of you in the gallery.

Is it worth explaining how this is dumb?

No? Well then I guess I don't have to. Everyone else has already done it for me. That said, this guy is still wrong on every conceivable level.
oh, for those obessed about anime promotion - please stop, youre just wrong. we cant even debate it because ive made a decent living by looking at promo schedules and ratings grids probably for longer than youve been alive. i can assure you that if anime promotion was the answer to anime success then youd see more anime promotion. cos then id be making more mad cash and wouldnt have to write things on the internet about anime. -Adult Swim President Mike Lazzo

Where? I see no manipulation.  Any group of people gathered to do a survey is call a sample.  A company will tell the survey takers they want the respondents to be young adult males, 18-35 or whatever demographics they want in the survey. ONLY people in that range will be counted.  ALL survey companies do that.  I belong to several, including Harris Polls, Toluna, and a couple of others.  They all ask my age, where I live, what sort of company I work for, if I own a dog or cat, if there are children in the household, etc because they are looking for information from certain demographics.

That is not manipulating the data.
