Common pronunciation faux pas (rant?)

[ Edited ]

This has bothered me before, but until I saw a video I'll link to later I tend to let these things go.

Most of them don't bother me........Which ever way you want to pronounce Gaiden, whether it be (gay-den) or (guy-den) matters not to me, I know what you're talking about.

Same goes for Ryu (rye-yoo) or (ree-yoo), Blanka (blonka) or (blaynka), Jin (Gin) or (Jeen), but one thing has always irked me, and that is when people pronounce Lei (lay) Wulong's name  Lee.........God I hate you.......Tekken has a Lee, the effiminate dude with the white hair, but the Jackie Chan knockoff is Lei (lay).

Honestly it bothered me, but not so much unti I saw this Just watch for about 7 seconds.

Know I don't know how many are familiar with Angry Joe, but he's a doosh that gets off on complaining about video games that I doubt he even plays........If he did he would know that Lee isn't in SFXT, and would know how to pronounce Lei.

Don't know if this should be in here or rants, or possibly not exist at all, but what are you going to do.........I'm about to hit post.

(Note to mod, I also posted this in Rants, so feel free to delete whichever one is in the wrong place)

I have similar problems with some names in the Final Fantasy games. Zidane, I've always pronounced zi-dan (with a long I and short a sound). But I get that some take it as zi-dane, with the short i and long a. Or however you choose to pronounce Aeris/th. Wutai and Nibelheim are some town names that I've heard pronounced different from what I've used.

Thank god most of our games talk now so the issue may soon fade away.

I'm guilty of pronouncing some of the more European names wrong in stuff like FF games, but I am trying to get better about it. It's Japanese names where I really draw the line, where they are mangled to hell with "Rye-yoo" for Ryu, and "Ray-den" & "Gay-den" for Raiden & Gaiden. I can let "Gin" for Jin slide cause both ways sound similar, but it grates the ears to hear stuff like "Saw-key" for Sake.

As for Angry Joe, I think he tries too hard to sound like the mouthpiece of the average gamer. It's funny when he's playing genuinely bad games like Kinect games and Call to Juarez: The Cartel, but when it comes to mainstream things that is cool to like or is cool to hate, he'll cream over any chance to make a dozen videos about it like a dozen SOPA rage videos, a dozen Capcom rage videos, a dozen ME3 creaming videos followed by a dozen ME3 rage videos, and the sort. He's probably one of the more bearable game critics to watch (which is like saying that a fire alarm sounds better than a siren), but he's more about playing to the crowd than legitimacy.

This should help.  Or not.

This is true. Most of the people working with That Guy With The Glasses are nerds aspiring to make their own psuedo- Mystery Science Theater with sketches and bad special effects. Not my cup of tea, but I do enjoy The Spoony Experiment and The Cinema Snob-- those being the only two I have bookmarked and check regularly.
