I might do a playthrough of some old games on YT.

I've always wanted to do a playthrough of all three of the original Spyro games. The trouble is finding a way to put it online in decent quality. I have the games on Playstation, but recording that off of my TV would look terrible. And I can't find the games online. Then there's the issue of finding recording software that records audio and video on my screen, as well as my microphone.

Once I figure all that out, look out, world. :smileyindifferent:

I've been thinking of starting up an LP of Minecraft or something.

Why do you need to talk during the videos?

Couldn't you record the video and then dub over it?

Buy a Dazzle or an Hauppauge HD PVR (which is what I use) for the game and use Audacity for your voice.

There's only 50 billion other people doing that...go for it.

If I were you, I'd pick a game that would actually be fun to watch. As much as I love the original Spyro games, I don't think watching someone play them would be very enticing.

Well, I could, but I want it to be organic. If I dub it, I'd try too hard to be entertaining, which would in turn make it not entertaining.

The issue with this, is that it can go both ways.  You can make a recording with audio coverage, and it could be entirely boring.  Conversly, you can record and edit your voice into the footage, and it can be engaging and honest, at the same time.

Roxio has a pretty decent recording device, which was friend was trying to get me to purchase a couple of months ago.  That might work well for what you're trying to do.

I would start looking at more obscure games that are more susceptible to being made fun of. I guess I'm only speaking for myself when I say that I watch Let's Plays for the comedic value, but if you want to rope in a viewing crowd, then I'd take that approach.

I'd argue that comedic value is really the only reason to watch LP videos most of the time, but I'm drawing mostly from my own perspective. Unless I'm watching a video of an online video game trying to see what other players use to gain an edge or some insight, LP videos are best watched with humor in mind.

As for what games to play, I'd make sure it's a game you've played before once or twice. Watching a guy get lost or turned around over and over isn't really all that entertaining to watch. Many times I've seen commentators give suggestions how to beat a boss to the player, which can be pretty embarrassing.

I wouldn't say they have to have been through the game before. Spoony's Phantasmagoria LP is the best LP I've ever watched, and he didn't exactly know what he was doing, which I think added to the comedy. That being said, he didn't dwell on being stuck for extended amount of time, so yeah.

You mean commentating about the things you did? That would take longer then just recording your voice along with the gameplay.

Personally, I think you should do a BLIND LP of something if you plan on doing one. I think it's far more entertaining to watch someone not know what the hell he or she's doing then to watch a guy who knows everything there is to know about the game he's LPing.

blinds can be kind of fun, but only if you know how to edit out all the boring stuff/you getting hopelessly lost.

I think some of the best LP's I've seen are people doing the super mario brothers hack runs. those are great

A walkthrough or an LP?

I'd totally watch an LP you'd make. Just, be OCD like me and do everything possible in the game. :smileytongue:

Most people's commentary is them trying to be funny. And then I want to strangle them for attempting that the entire time.

Be sure to add some commentary.

Some of the stuff this guy says will make you pee yourself.

We are what we think. All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we make the world.
