planet side 1 was amazing. there is nothing like being part of an entire air brigade (like 30 planes) keeping touch with a full ground force to attack an enemy base and have like 700 people on the map.

this looks unbelievable.

Those were the days before the Biffers ruined it. Thank goodness the devs are steering clear of repeating that. That reminds me, I hope one day they achieve naval and/or space combat. Mix things up besides just land and air.

ya, and to think why I thought halo and that kind was boring. 24 players max on a consolidated map. while it seemed the rest of the world was playing that, we where playing massive strategic battles with 1000 players in the vicinity.

god I can not wait for this

I get what you're saying. People like us were hipsters of gaming back then. They said Halo, we said Planetside! I don't know about you but I'm giving up on console gaming just for Planetside 2! New Conglomerate all the way!

I'd argue that the faction specific weapons being ridiculously unbalanced ruined it.

Heavy weapons:

Vanu get the Lasher, highly inaccurate even at 10 feet, minimal damage (got nerfed over and over due to whining on the other faction's part).

NC got the the Jackhammer, which could kill you in about 1-2 seconds at 10 feet range.

And finally, the most rigged gun in the game, TR got the minigun, which at 10 feet would have you dead in 2 seconds tops AND was highly accurate over long ranges.  In fact, I've seen many a minigun wielding TR kill a BFR solo.

MAXes:

Vanu got a ridiculously slow projectile that locks on for AA, a negligently powerful laser for AI, and a slow, extremely inaccurate projectile for AV.  Oh, and jumpjets, woo?

NC get homing rockets that don't need lock after the first one fires locked for AA, another #### shotgun for AI, and a homing missile for AV.  And a shield that takes punishment with a relatively minimal sacrifice in fire rate (compared to getting blown up immediately and dying).

And finally, look who is most rigged again, the TR get a flak gun that doesn't need a lock for AA (yes, no fire and forget, but with no warning it's easier to get surprise kills), another damned minigun for AI, and the biggest BS weapon in the entire game, the Pounder for AV.  The pounder spams grenades in an arc at a target with extreme accuracy and can either be set to explode on impact, or to go off after 2 seconds allowing the bouncing of ordinance around corners.  Not only does it kill vehicles extremely fast even at range, it is the ultimate hallway holder.  Plan to kill him with a decimator?  Good luck getting the shot off before you're dead.  Finally, they get two different ways to increase firing speed, as if the Pounder didn't decimate your team enough as is.

The tanks were mostly balanced, and well, the BFRs continued the tradition of imabalance.

But really, BFRs only brought to focus just how uneven things were.

Theres that too, but don't forget BFRs really slowed down gameplay. Instead of focusing on caping bases we were focusing on downing BFRs.

Honestly, that helped the game, probably. Hallway fights were always lopsidedly in favor of TR. Keeping them out of those made the game more fun ultimately.

I hate to see the game having to go after the CoD people, but it'll have to.

However, I'd really love for them to set-up a "classic" server with multi-person tanks enabled.

Trust me, if theres enough #### from the community.  They will bring back multi-person tanks. Plus I saw a Machine Gun on top of the Vanguard. maybe the devs are planning to have a second person use that. Or maybe it was some sort of optional AA gun.

Most likely an optional gun. They don't want to make someone who wants to drive a tank have to deal with having those pesky "friends."

I'd really like for them to being back artillery, but it looks like they've shrunk the maps pretty drastically. Only issue artillery had was it was too easy with one person (and it was one of the only accurate weapons in the whole game).
