PlayStation Vita

On February 22nd, Sony launches it's new handheld console on the North American marketplace, called the PlayStation Vita. It comes into a marketplace now crowded with very competent mobile phone gaming, with a rush to the bottom strategy with gaming prices, and a surging push from handheld gaming mainstay Nintendo in the 3DS.

It features a 5 inch OLED multi-touch screen, dual analog sticks, a rear touch screen, and graphical prowess that compares very favorably to current-gen consoles.

Some of the launch games include Uncharted and Hot Shots Golf.

I have some questions for you General Gaming.
Do you think there is room for another gaming platform in this space, and is there a niche or a need that the Vita is reaching that isn't already met?
Are you interested in the device, and if not at launch, do you think you would purchase it later?
What would it take for you to buy it, or are you already sold?

I really really like portable gaming, but at the same time right now I don't feel like I need ANOTHER system. Give it six months and maybe.

I always wished PSP had your friend list and trophies. I guess they were saving it for Vita.

And only Wi-fi would have been perfect, wi-fi at home, and like 30 starbuck's around. Lol.

While I was at GameStop pre-ordering Mass Effect 3, I had the chance to play a PSVita. They had an Uncharted game loaded up, and the graphics were outstanding. The system itself was comfortable, but a little on the large side for those of us with smaller hands. It felt solid, and the weight distribution was perfect. I'm seriously considering purchasing one, but not on launch day. Waiting to see what the battery ilfe is really like, and for any bugs to be worked out is always a good idea when a new system is released.

The original PSP was released in 2005, so it's only natural that Sony has decided to release a new handheld. Instead of just a slight update to an almost 7 year old system. They released some updated systems with slight changes to software or design, but have yet to release a successor to that original system. Just as Nintendo does every so often. You have to change things once in a while to keep them from becoming stale.

I tried one out today too, played Gravity Daze (not sure what the American title is). It is a super slick system, though the buttons were kind of teensy. Overall it was way nicer than I had imagined.

I really want one, lol.

However, I may probably hold out for an upgraded version or a price cut, I won't pay $250 (or $170 with a traded in DSi...) for another handheld like I did with the 3DS. It's just the fact that it's a lot of money, lol.

I've wanted to try the Vita, but have had no such luck yet. Uncharted: GA looks amazing.

If you're asking if there's room for the Vita, I really think so. The reason why PSP did so lousy here was because of piracy. Hopefully it doesn't happen with the Vita. And I think it's a great place to find some unique and niche titles you pretty much won't find anywhere else (Legend of Heroes games, Sound Shapes, Lumines, for example). And until the 3DS comes with a revision of an additional slider/analog stick, I think the Vita is going to be a powerhouse.
Are you interested in the device, and if not at launch, do you think you would purchase it later?
I've always been interested on picking up the Vita. Question was, would it be a day 1 purchase or not.
What would it take for you to buy it, or are you already sold?
I'm currently sold on the 3G Vita since it now comes with a 8GB and a free PSN game for absolutely no additional cost but the price of a 3G Vita.

I'll probably consider it when more info on the FFX remake surfaces. Won't be a day one purchase for me, though.

To the second question: Yes. This is the first portable I've been interested in since the DS. To the third question, I'm going to wait for price drops and all that jazz, gonna end up with the Wi-Fi version, too.

Buying it when Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention comes out on April 17, with regards to the non gaming aspects, I don't give a flying #### about them.

I think there is usually room for new things if launched at the right time but I don't think the Vita is really all that necessary, and neither was the 3DS for that matter. There's already every type of game available on handhelds, Playstation exclusives are the only real benefit.

I would love to have a Vita but unless I stumble across a lot of extra cash I will not spend a single dime on one until I can get one dirt cheap. I'd really rather spend all that money on console games.

I'm interested in pretty much all gaming platforms if they have games I'd like to play. That being said, the Vita doesn't right now, and I won't consider buying one until it does. Even then, I probably won't get it until it drops in price.

I think there is definitely room for it in the market, but it doesn't interest me so I won't be buying it. I am a nintendo fanboy of sorts but I've fallen out of the hand-held market.

We just got a few demos of them at Best Buy yesterday so I was playing around with it. It's pretty nice overall, but I won't pick one up until at least Persona 4 is localized, and even then, I refuse to pay for than ~$150 for it since that's literally the only game I'm interested in.

And for what it's worth, Uncharted is NOT a launch title. It'll be coming out soon, but it is not coming out at launch. The biggest issue I have with the Vita is that while it is nice, because of its terrible battery life, I'd hardly call it a 'portable' since I'd only use it at home, so it might as well just be another console. The thing only has 3 hours of gaming time and I believe that's without internet usage, which is just pitiful.

I will say this though, that 5 inch screen sure is pretty.

Fear cuts deeper than the sword...
