Albums of the Year 2011

I don't see any threads in the top 30 discussing the best albums of 2011.

Here's my Top 10:

1. Drake--Take Care

2. Girls--Father, Son, Holy Ghost

3. Shabazz Palaces--Black Up

4. Kurt Vile--Smoke Ring For My Halo

5. Ty Segall--Goodby Bread

6. Danny Brown--XXX

7. Lil B--I'm Gay

8. Real Estate--Days

9. Smith Westerns--Dye It Blonde

10. Big KRIT--Return of 4Eva

Those are my top ten in order.

What did I miss?

What are your favorite albums of 2k11?

Should Girls have been number one?

Mastodon's The Hunter

That's like the only new album I've listened to this year. Behemoth, I'm waiting for you to blow away the DM scene again sometime next year.

You are neither cold nor hot. So because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth.

Yeah, I actually hate metal and loved the Mastodon album. All of their albums before were focused around an element, Fire on 2002's Remission, Water on 2004's Leviathan, Earth on 2006's Blood Mountain, and Air on Crack the Skye. I really didn't know what they were going to stylistically since they ran out of elements, but The Hunter was great. Honorable mention.

you think Thursday is better than House of Balloons? I only liked three songs on Thursday, "The Birds 2, The Zone, and Life of the Party" but every song on House of Balloons was awesome, especially "The Morning" "Loft Music" "Glass Table Girls" and "High for This."

That's really funny, since I actually have the exact opposite opinion: Thursday was awesome start-to-finish while HoB was really inconsistent :smileyvery-happy: Seriously though, you didn't like "Gone"? Song of the year for me easily.

Gone's beat reminds me of that Lil Wayne song "Drop the World," but I probably like House of Balloons better because I listened to it about thirty times, while doing drugs, and I didn't give Thursday a chance because I heard about it from a dude that I told about House of Balloons, and he said "Dude it **beast**." so i was like eff this dudes opinion when he came to me and said "thursday is awesome."

but i mean as long as you have a valid reason then it's just a matter of opinion--it makes me happy to see that people actually listen to The Weeknd in the first place.

Another question, isn't Lil B the intentionally horrible rapper that somehow has garnered a fan following? I don't get that whatsoever.

The only new albums I've heard are (in order):

Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events

Nujabes - Spiritual State

Mastodon - The Hunter

The Dream Theater album is the best one they've done in a loooooong time.

Lil B was that, and he has fans cause he like really pushes his music..like too hard..he tries to do too much most times.

Everyone knows Lil B for his narcissistic swag jams over Lex Luger sounding beats, and he DID try that.

On I'm Gay, he mostly talked about how now that he was famous he realized he was being "fake" before, and that most everyone in the game is "fake." Of course, he still raps in his #basedfreestyle which is sort of a joke, it not being good, but I picked I'm Gay cause it has a clear message, a funny title, and shows a marked improvement in Lil B's focus.

Every year I listen to less and less non Hip Hop.

An Ecclectic Mix
A (Mostly) Underground Hip Hop Mix
I made these as a better way to explain to people what kind of music I like but I suppose you could use LastFM if you wanted to cheapen it.

I used to have 500 cds now i have none,
but when it comes to vinyl, my Fugazi weighs a ton...

I don't think I've heard any albums from 2011 yet... :smileyindifferent:

In all for realz, I haven't heard much... based on what's in my Discogs collection, most of it is noise **beast**, and some of it is stuff that was re-issued. Out of that, I guess these were the 10 best, in no particular order, because that requires too much brain power:

Raspberry Bulbs - Nature Tries Again, 2011 cassette re-issue

Fækal Omsorg/Fatal Position split

Ruins - Chambers Of Perversion, 2011 CD re-issue

V/A: Silence = Death comp. I even liked the Xiu Xiu contribution, which is saying something

V/A: What The Hell Is A Jiggawatt?!? comp.

Hedorah/Marlee Matlin split (really good, even if I don't much care for Family Guy samples, as heard throughout MM's half)

Facialmess - Total Liberation netrelease

Young Egypt/The Uh... - Central Ave., split

Pine Hill Haints - The Evening Star

V/A - Southern Noise Comp, because I need to pimp it in a vain, fruitless attempt to sell some copies to you guys and make a little monay... But I actually am very pleased with the quality of the submissions... I really do think it's good! I accept PayPal, MO's and well-concealed cash! :smileywink:

And an honorable mention, left off the list only because I can't confirm that it came out this year, but this is the year I heard it, and it's really good:

Pissdeads/THC Eradicus split on Trichome Noise Recordings

Also, the Smiths Complete box that I can't **beast** afford!!!

Check my wantlist! I am not looking to make trades from my collection, but I am happy to swap tapes of anything in my collection for (almost) anything in my wantlist. Get in touch!

I was actually a HUGE fan of his 05 or 06 album "False Hopes." I'm actually pretty sure that was the last album I actually purchased.

Here's a link to a really good song from that album.

1. tUnE-yArDs - w h o k i l l
2. James Blake - s/t
3. TV on the Radio - Nine Types of Light
4. The Antlers - Burst Apart
5. The Decemberists - The King is Dead
6. Childish Gambino - Camp
7. Bon Iver - s/t
8. Das Racist - Relax
9. Los Campesinos! - Hello Sadness
10. Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost

Also worth mentioning:

Honestly I think 2011 was a bit of a letdown as far as music goes, but there was so much good stuff in 2010 it'd be kind of hard not to be.

Childish Gambino "Camp" is the worst rap CD that ever existed. I am sorry, but it is an abomination in every thinkable aspect.

*but I agree w. most of your other choices, esp. James Blake and Washed Out.
