Alright, metalhead, it's question time.

Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden or Judas Priest?

Bonus points: which of the big four of thrash is your favorite? If you don't like any of the big four, then just give me your favorite thrash band.

For me, it's Iron Maiden and Megadeth.

I like Judas Priest solely because they ensured that gay culture and metal would forever be intertwined.

Black Sabbath.

Megadeth overall but Anthrax had the best debut and Slayer had one of the best albums out of all of them (Hell Awaits)

1. Black Sabbath, my favorite band ever.

2. Metallica. Not actually much of a fan of most other thrash.

1. Judas Priest. I like them about the same as Iron Maiden music-wise, but they seem like more fun.
2. Slayer! I barely like the other three, but Slayer is awesome!

Currently, as in within the last 24 hours or so, Iron Maiden (been rediscovering them after many years of writing them off as "stupid Metal #### I've grown out of").

and I tend to like Crossover better than traditional Thrash, so The Accüsed. Specifically their first two records.

Honorable mentions are numerous, but, off the top of my head: Hellbastard and Cryptic Slaughter rank very high. I tend to like Thrash that takes more influence from the extremity of early Death Metal and Hardcore (particularly in the vocal department) than from Speed Metal and NWOBHM.

Check my wantlist! I am not looking to make trades from my collection, but I am happy to swap tapes of anything in my collection for (almost) anything in my wantlist. Get in touch!

1. Sabbath out of those choices (I like all three a lot, JP my least favorite) but Motorhead > all.

2. Megadeth would be my pick out of that four, purely on the grounds that Rust In Peace alone is better than anything the other bands have recorded. Second place would go to Metallica for having four good-to-great albums in a row. Third place would be Sepultura, their first four albums were great and Chaos A.D. was also solid. Don't much care for Anthrax and Slayer, both have a couple good albums and the rest I find unmemorable.

Judas Priest, and out of the big four? Hell I'll rank them from like to least liked: Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer. Sodom > any of those 4 though, by miles

You are neither cold nor hot. So because you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth.

sabbath.

maiden a close second, though, as they were the band that got me into music that was outside the mainstream rock being played on the radio.

as for the big 4...meh. i probably liked slayer the most but now i prefer kreator to all of em.

honestly a tie between Maiden & Sabbath. don't like Priest at all

Metallica by far, despite their embarassing post-AJFA output. then Megadeth > Slayer (although they're more influential to the developement of metal subgenres than the others) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anthrax. Artillery & Deathrow are also amazing thrash bands that are almost on the same level as Metallica.

Artillery is great.

Also since everyone is giving non big 4 answers too: Exodus, Whiplash, and Sepultura.

Warfare, Nuclear Assault, and Overkill are worthy of mention too.

Black sabbath, if only because I don't listen to the other two very often.

Really, I think it should be called the big 3, since those are never excluded from the list. The 4th one always seems to be different, I've seen exodus, testament, and anthrax. Either way, I'd say either megadeth or slayer. I lean towards megadeth since they totally out performed slayer when I saw them play together.

Also, can you believe Tom Araya is 50 years old?

It's technically supposed to be Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax but people throw out Anthrax and throw Exodus, Overkill, etc. in sometimes.

Also when I saw Slayer live it was kinda meh, tbh. Megadeth and Anthrax were great though.

Iron Maiden. They're probably the best heavy metal band that's ever been.

HMMMMM!!!! Metallica or Megadeth? That is the question.
Metallica.

Also, have you been keeping up with the news on the Black Sabbath "reunion"?
Bill Ward is out because he wasn't given a fair contract as a founding musician?
Who do I blame? Sharon.
Her greed and spite knows no ends.
It doesn't matter how much it upsets loyal fans or how rare an opportunity like this comes along, Sharon doesn't want to give Bill a fair shake.
I know she claims that she doesn't manage the band, that she manages her husband.
I call bull####. Her influence on Ozzy is more than enough to get her own way.
I'm also a little upset with Tony and Geez for not standing by Bill.

They're still calling it a "reunion", which pisses me off.
I feel sorry for the people who bought a ticket prior to the news.
I'm not buying the album and I'm sure as hell not going to see them live.
If Dio was still alive, I'd rather see Heaven & Hell over a Black Sabbath reunion, anyway.

It's funny how, in the light of all this Bill Ward news, people have nearly seem to have forgotten that Tony Iommi has lymphoma. I hope he gets better.

Iron Maiden and Metallica.

I get so bored with Metallica and thrash in general though, except when I'm in the mood to hear a particular favorite track from one of the big four; either "For Whom The Bell Tolls" or "Hangar 18" usually do that. And "Madhouse" is sick.

I think Anthrax is thrown in there because they're not from the Bay Areo like nearly every other American thrash band is.

I also think they deserve it, because their '80s output is completely on-par with the other three. I can understand why Testament or Exodus would go in there, though. I think "Big Four" goes more in terms of popularity than sheer quality, too.

As for Araya, I totally can believe it, and even though is back is messed up, he's still truckin'.

Can you believe Mustaine is also fifty?

Yeah, I think Bill Ward's treatment has been very unfair, but there's not much we can do about it unless all of us Sabbath fans get together and demand that he is given fair representation.

As for Iommi, I hope he gets better as well. I haven't forgotten and I don't think many people have, it's just that his lymphoma has been given a backseat to this bombshell.

It does. Otherwise Exodus would definitely be in there <_<

Also Anthrax's debut is the best debut of the big four imo. I went back and listened to it again quite a bit recently and holy ####

Danzig is going to be 57 this year.
