Since it's technically Thursday, my favorite song of roughly the last half hour of the beginning of this day has been The Smiths - The Hand That Rocks The Cradle ('83 Hacienda Club performance): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8cgTq5Gr0x0

They sound like they really wanted to be Joy Division here, haha...

Pretty great early-days version of the song. It's just so radically different from what they put on the first record... It's like this plodding Post-Punk dirge here, and it has this typical "monochromatic, grey drabness" I often associate with a lot of early-80's UK Post-Punk, but it still manages to be sad and emotional in a similar way to the album recording:

Okay, I  just reminded myself of Believe by Cher, so now that's my favorite song right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4p0chD8U8fA

This is great and true.

An Ecclectic Mix
A (Mostly) Underground Hip Hop Mix
I made these as a better way to explain to people what kind of music I like but I suppose you could use LastFM if you wanted to cheapen it.
When I make music... my mission statement is to be the Tim Kinsella of Hip Hop, the Al Burian of Singer/Songwriters, and the Dose One of punk rock!
I used to have 500 cds now i have none,
but when it comes to vinyl, my Fugazi weighs a ton...

The Shins - Simple Song

For the past like week I haven't been able to get enough of this song.

Also been enjoying Volcano by PUSA today in particular. But I feel nerdy for liking that song as much as I do.

I realize I've posted this in here before, but I just love this Rudimentary Peni cover by Dystopia so much.... I've listened to it about a buhzillion times tonight:

Dystopia - Cosmetic Plague

I love the way they trade off vocals throughout, and everyone singing (sounds like about 4 different people) just sounds like a new level of psychotic with each member they pass on to, until the guy singing near the end just sounds like cookie monster going OGABOOGBLAHBLAH! RUHBLUGHGLUGHBLAH! UGHHHBULBLUGHHHBLAAAH!!!! Hahaha!

And Dino just does awesome vocals in general... TOWDULLY INTENSE, DOOD!

The Magnetic Fields - You And Me And The Moon

I really like that the big, fat, gay magnetic fields manage to be so tuneful yet always bitter-sweet...

PS: Also, Curve - Horror Head

Yeah, it is, it's just that I can recall that song being posted (relatively) recently, so I figured I should explain why I like it better, if only for the benefit of people who actually bother to click links I post. :smileytongue:

The Magnetic Fields are really good! Can't wait for Love at the Bottom of the Sea to come out in a few weeks. Especially since they're going to use synthesizers again, which I love.

Werd... this is the only folder I view with any regularity these days.

IDK why, but I just don't have much interest in checking Babbling or show folders much now.

Anyway, I have been listening to Silver Screen on repeat and wishing I were dead, haha... In all seriousness, I really don't like being like this.

Michelle Shocked - Come A Long Way

It makes me feel like an old bulldyke living on a ranch in Montanna, but w/e... I still like it.

Also: J-Chot - Funky Cold Messina.

J-Chot was/is this breakcore guy from nearby Decatur, AL. I was digging through my old music CD-r's trying to rip them to FLAC before the dye in (ALL) of them degrades, rendering them useless when I found a demo CD-r he gave me around 2006, and that brought back some fond memories.

It's a pretty great and equally ridiculous track... It's basically this sped-up Gabber/Brakcore remix of "Danny's Song" by Loggins and Messina. It's both sonically awesome and totally #### hilarious and absurd all at once... Can't help liking it immensely. Doesn't hurt that I always kinda-sorta liked the original L&M recording too (Shhh!).
