For the past couple years, I have been using Sunn O)))'s 'Black One' as my soundtrack to Halloween night. It has been working pretty well in my front yard with a slow strobe and fog machine. I am thinking of doing a mix or just putting on something of Lustmord's this year. Probably 'Purifying Fire'.

Your list is seriously lacking 'Halloween II' though.

Thanks for the idea.

I am probably going to blast Black One this year! It's going to be epic.

How much are fog machines? And Sunn O))) used some affects on the fog to create a blanket effect. It looks awesome.

I might turn on Absolutego too.

I think the problem is that you're trying to dispute the usage of a term that is completely debatable (and stupid) in the first place.

"post" is a pretty b.s. term to me, but if it refers to "post" in the literal, chronological sense as you suggest, then does that mean that any thrash band that formed after the initial wave of thrash in the eighties is in fact "post-thrash" to you?

Like Violator (the one that formed in '02), for example...would you classify them as post-thrash?

That's pretty sweet, I'll look forward to seeing it.

Also, concerning halloween stuff, if I ever had a chance to play music for it, I'd go with Stallagh. Of course, that's mostly cause I've barely heard any sunn O))).

I'm a little confused here.  The terminology isn't really different.  Post-rock post-metal post-jazz post-hardcore.  They all refer to movements that have spawned off of an initial genre to create something new.  But something that hasn't refined itself quite yet.  Hmm, I don't see much of a point in really arguing this though.  Mostly just because it doesn't seem too important to me.

Doesn't matter either way here- I live at the end of a dead end and we have never had more than maybe 10 trick-or-treat-ers in a given year. I would try to do something cool (I would probably use some Gravetemple but I own Black One by Sunn O))) and Projekt Terror by Stalaggh so I'm in a good spot for creepy music) but I'm usually out doing something Halloween night so...

Actually I'm not supposed to listen to Gravetemple upstairs on the good stereo anymore, because it scares the hell out of my dog.

Sunn 0))) were so good last Thursday night. They played for about 80 minutes and I picked up the limited 3xLP Picture Disc vinyl resissue of The GrimmRobe Demos they were selling.

Speaking of vinyl, I new to (non doom/sludge) metal. I recently got Death's "Scream Bloody Gore" and Bathory's S/T LP. Sweet jams.

First off, to your post, yea Scream Bloody Gore is a killer album....just about anything by Death is killer (pun intended. :smileytongue: )

Now onto my main point, the Amon Amarth show was freakin awesome. I didn't go in the pit cuz i was in a "f*ck it" sorta mood...also kinda sore from work, but I still had a great view.
The Absence opened......pretty cool stuff. I'm definitely gonna look into them more after the performance they put on. Belphagor was laughable. I mean the songs were good, but it just seemed like the singer was tryin too hard to be black metal....then when he put on the gimp mask with the spikes, I actually busted out laughin....too freakin hilarious. Both them and Ensiferum kept mispronouncing Worcester.....they were sayin Worchester......IT'S WOOSTAH, FOO'! Beyond that, Ensiferum kicked azz for the second time this year I must grab a couple albums. Everyone f*ckin lost it during Amon Amarth. My neck still hurts. They closed with Cry of the Black Birds and The Pursuit of Vikings.

From what I've heard, it is pretty much the sequel to With Oden on Our Side. Still badass imo, but i don't see where this long time thing comes into play.

When I say trick-or-treaters, it's mostly little tikes. I remember some creepy music when I was little that freaked me the fuck out, but yea...I still got the candy. :smileyvery-happy:

I'd need like...some atmospheric stuff though, all I have on album are mostly thrash/death stuff.

Well last night kicked major ** quack **.

All **their is no 4** bands I saw were good, Especially Genghis Tron. I guess I'll go in order of band here.

Black Cobra- It was a guitar player and a drummer playing some sludgy doom metal.  I didn't know too much about them before but they were pretty good.  They did a lot of tempo changes.  They played some stuff that even got into grindcore levels too.

Yip Yip - I still don't understand what I saw.  This isn't metal, but seeing as the other that played were I figured I'd talk about them anyway.  It was just two guys.  Both wearing black and white clothes but with opposite patterns with opposite patterns of themselves behind them on the backdrop they made.  They had a bunch of different keyboards and a percussion kit extension to the keyboard with actual cymbals.  And the other guy played the sax as well.  The best way I can describe it is electronica with hints of ska and hints of jazz.  It was weird, but I liked it oddly.

Teith - This was kind of creepy, but in a good way.  All of the band members were wearing different plastic animal masks through the first song.  Keyboard, guitar, bass, drums.  Then they took them off and had skin-tight clear masks on there faces with the mouths covered with paint, but their eyes weren't covered.  It was pretty ambient with lots of builds and leads from the rhythm section.  No vocals.  Well for the most part, their was one point where they all stopped playing and started singing as loud as they could without a mic. They were all singing the same note at different times, and it was pretty creepy with the masks and all.  The guitar player had the eeriest mask btw.  Apparently the guitarist from Pelican is a member.  Which makes some sense with their sound.

Genghis Tron - Their light show kicks ** quack **.  There was 8 lights that were tall and skinny in a semi circle pattern around them.  And the lights would turn off and on to match the beats of the songs along with changing the colors of them.  It was like metal collided with a rainbow.  It was pretty much just awesome.

So yeah if you guys want to check any out here's some links.

They're recording a new cd right now. I'm pretty excited about it, I thought Kill was pretty good. It's supposed to be out sometime in the beginning of 09. Then, a massive tour. CC shows are so much fun. Last time I saw them there was 5 circle pits that were intersecting with one another. (like a venn diagram) So much fun.
