I agree with you, I can't do a top ten this year but for what I did enjoy:

i have love behind the melody, but i really haven't listened to it for some reason. i enjoy the love experience, so i have no explanation. i never even picked up year of the gentleman. i gotta get on that when i go back to my place. here i stand was the biggest surprise to me because i wasn't feeling "love in this club." even now, i generally skip it as well as "this ain't sex." after that, though, i love it. someone actually laughed at me when i said that i was getting that album, but fuuuuuudge it. i think he gets better with each album.

also, i just looked at that grammy page again, and ne-yo is nominated for best contemporary r&b album. no clue what constitutes contemporary r&b since jennifer hudson is up for best r&b album.

I was surprised by Here I Stand as well and I actually like Usher.  Year of the Gentleman is really good, he's also gotten better with each album.  I think had some release come out earlier they would have made the list, like Jon B's Helpless Romantic and maybe Kanye's 808's and Heartbreak.

Agreed.  Atmosphere's new album was trying to take a different approach to their music, this time around without any samples, and I think they nailed it.  That would definitely be my number one.  

Aside from that, I really can't put any others in any particular order, nor are there ten of them... But they are:

Sad Clown Bad Spring 12 -Atmosphere

A History of Violence -Jedi Mind Tricks

Untitled -Nas

The Renaissance -Q Tip

When Life gives you Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold -Atmosphere

Other than that, I guess Evil Nine's single "All The Cash" featuring El-P was pretty good.  

I don't like mainstream too much at all to be honest,  but I thought Live your Life was a very good song, and also had a good message (if anybody looks at lyrics for songs these days other than for forums signatures or AIM profiles...)

this is why i've asked y'all to list albums before. i completely forgot about the foreign exchange album, and i don't even know who adele is. i feel the same way about musiq, too, but i can't say that i ever really enjoyed any of his albums, anyway. it was just a few songs here and there.

I totally agreed with you on Paint it Gold, I didn't like it at first listen because something sounded off. The whole change in Ant's production is the major difference from past albums and it's nice to see a producer change styles after awhile. Plus add Slug's lyrics and album went over the top for me.

If you're not into mainstream I recommend Jake One's album it a great mix of underground and mainstream artists.

@ SmilezDavis I like ADELE's album, the best way I could describe her is as a lighter and cleaner version of Winehouse (recommended tracks Chasing Pavements, Hometown Glory & Melt My Heart To Stone). I think I'll wait for some reviews on Musiq's album, he's really lost some steam since his first album.

I actually liked Luvanmusiq more than I have any of his other albums, but I haven't heard his latest single so it might be lame.  I just got The Foreign Exchange but so far I'm digging it.

I was looking through my mediaplayer, and all of my favorite music from '08 came from mixtapes and EPs. A Mixtape About Nothing, Sonic the Hamilton, Mickey Factz' Leak series, Janelle Monae's Metropolis and the Cool Kids' Bake Sale (which may have come out in 07). I really wasn't feeling 08 albums like that. Still haven't copped Common. I like Q-Tip's album, but it gets a little boring at times. Kidz in the Hall killed their **bleep!** with crazy guest appearances. Luda's Theater of the Mind is nice. I've only heard about half the album, but its a solidass half.

Why is Rihana getting so much luv mainstream wise? Real talk she's not even that good of a singer.

i don't like telling other people that they should spend money on an album. i already said that i like it more than i thought i would. it's better than finding forever, but that album wasn't that good, anyway. i suggest searching elsewhere and listening to it first. dig?
