Chick is amazing...I've got Light as a Feather and Return to Forever, in addition to a live cd he did with the Electrik Band and of course some of the stuff he did with Miles Davis.

It seems that saxophonist and flutist James Moody has passed away.  I have not had the opportunity to listen to a lot of his work, but he was definitely one of the greats.

yes he is. ive been lucky to see him live 4 times now *one time with return to forever* and he has impressed all the time. even at this age he still hasnt slowed down.

and all the times i've seen him he has never played the same song twice.

miles has always had some of the best jazz musicians in his bands during the 40s, 50s and 60s. i especially love all the talent in the **pickle** brew era.

I really like Pat Metheny's approach to Jazz.

Does anyone here like Modern Jazz bands like Mouse On the Keys, Indigo Jam Unit, or Contemporary Noise Quintet?

just went 3 days to the waterfront blues festival in portland.

it was a blues outdoor festival, 5 stages and over 120 bands!

and it only cost $10 and 2 cans of food to get in!

Some people I make Youtube Poop Tennis with got me into Chick Corea's music back in March.

Best stuff I've ever heard. Short story, I was at a used video game store last week when I spotted a Chick Corea Elektric Band CD! I bought it and my ears sprouted wings.

Awesome.  I love Chick Corea.  The Return to Forever stuff is my favorite, but Elektric Band is good too.

i also love chick!

i am very glad to say that i've seen him 4 times in concert (once with the rtf lineup) and it was just wonderful.

he was playing something different all the time!

he has so many albulms too hard to pick a favorite but i think "now he sings now he sobs" and "my spanish heart" are my favorites.

I keep going back to this is howlin' wolf's new album.  he doesn't like it.   He didn't like his first electric guitar either.  that record and electric mud by muddy waters are the 2 essential blues albums imo.  as far as jazz goes i ride for johnny hammond gears, marcus belgrave gemini 2 (eventho it kinda rips of red clay on that one song), and james tatum's jazz mass.

I'm mostly a heavy music guy, but from time to to time I listen to other stuff, even blues. My favorite blues artists are JJ Cale, Clapton, Leon Russell, Kenny Wayne, Stevie Ray, Bloodline, and David Allan Coe's early blues songs.

If by heavy music you mean metal, it's not such a huge leap to blues.

Any love for Son House?

My Dearly Departed DAVE BRUEBECK and PAUL DESMOND.

Paul Desmond in my opinion is the Greatest ALTO Sax player of all time. Just like his opposite TENOR Sax number Charlie Parker. He led a sad and ultimately tragic and shorter life than he ( they )should've.

Spiritually always with me alongside my Grandpa Willy who turned me onto them as a small child.

Butch Hartman dissed Ol' Kenny G on Fairly Odd Parents. Which I appreciated. Once had a classmate in High School who thought Kenny G was the greatest Saxaphonist of all time. Just because of Portuguese Pride. Costa, that was his name.

Bird played alto. Mayhaps you mean Coltrane for tenor?
