I enjoy the Blues, but I have a real love for jazz. Obviously the main cats like Miles, Coltrane, Monk, Ray Brown and "Bird" top the list... but some really great living jazz artists are Brad Mehldau, Charlie Haden, Egberto Gismonti, John Scofield.... blah blah blah I feel like I'm just making a list here... you get the idea.

Word, scofield is great. i saw him a little while back when he was on tour for his new album "uberjam", great show. Bill Frissell and Pat Metheny are two other phenomenal jazz guitarists.
agreed.
I saw Sco a few times. The first time was the best though. We (my husband/then boyfriend and I) saw him play at a restaurant/jazz club right after "A Go Go" was released. We were sitting at a table that surrounded the stage, his guitar was literally in my face for some of the show... amazing.
Haden and Methany did an album together, "Beyond the Missouri Sky" that is so relaxed and beautiful in its simplicity... one of my favorite, quiet rainy morning albums for sure.

I keep hearing this comparison, but from the few tracks I've heard, I really don't get the comparison. She sounds great though, I've been meaning to pick that album up for some time.

This is true, Jazz & Blues are a truly 100% American artform. I just recently picked up an album by Madeleine Peyroux. She has a wonderful Billy Holliday-esque voice.

Calm down, boy.

Lady Day is one of my favorite female vocalists... ever, so I may be less inclined to agree with comparisons. Besides, I think Peyroux has a gorgeous voice and that to compare her to someone so dear in the musical community is really a disservice. People like to label, and it would be a shame to have her similarities to someone so huge define her as an artist when she is CLEARLY doing her own thing.

Too bad he doesn't have a concert in the USA. Only in the UK...
