May as well post my question here, just in case this thread does get made official.

On the legal PDF form, in part 6. a., it says:

"With the exception of any elements owned and controlled by Cartoon Network, Submitter is the sole originator of the Material, that the Material is solely owned by  Submitter and that no other person, firm, or corporation has any right, title or interest therein or thereto."

So, considering that part I bolded, does that mean I can submit a clip of myself playing the theme song of an adult swim show?

You playing a clip of a theme song from one of our shows is fine. What that clause is really there for is to let people know that they can't use copyrighted material in the music they send us. So, for instance, if someone was to sample a song by A Tribe Called Quest and use it in their own beat, we couldn't use it.

Interesting, cause I just recently made this thread,

Cause if they do start submitting music from us that will be great, I can make all kinds of tight beats and submit them.

Yup, I just read the PDF..thats pretty awesome, I will probably print it up,sign it, send it and see what happens.

well, I think we can put our music here too for them to use...but how would they know who's who from the license forms..I mean unless we can put out asmb handle on there..they wont know.

If we receive something we'd like to use, we'll email the person to let them know. Upon doing so, we'd also ask if they'd prefer us to mention their real name, artist name, or board member name. It's up to them.

Also, as far as recognition goes, some people have asked how we're going to swing that. Once we begin receving material we like and use on air, the VMP page will gain a scrollable section where we'll post bumps in which we've used viewer music. Aside each of those bumps, we'll have the artist's info.

Doesn't matter when it comes in. If we like it, we like it. Deciding on when to use them is subjective though, since bumps can sometimes be thematic in nature, calling for one style of music over another. If we air a bump with someone's track, we'll try to let them know beforehand, just in case they want to Tivo it, show friends/family, or whatever.

Ok, cool.

and Im looking forward to the list of people after they are played, and what their songs sound like.

Either way this was a great idea, its another way to keep us viewers interested, plus it might bring in a lot of new people to the site and boards.

but what about
a.music from the turner library
that has already been cleared for other [as] promotions
[like the birdman commercial promo]
are those tracks cleared for use on this promotion?
b.the original block theme, the "d-code" remix of tito puente's mambo gallego
is that fair game or does someone else hold the rights to that?

So if those songs are copyrighted..which I think they are, you cant use them. But you should go check and see for sure.

yeah, so do we really have to put our social security number on that legal doc? cuz i don't really like throwing that number out there if i don't have to.

And are there specific genres of music [as] is looking for: beats, rock, experimental, etc???

It's there because our Legal Department needed it to be, so yes, I guess you do have to tack it on.

As for genres, we're open to anything. We'd probably be more inclined to use beats or experimental, because they're easier to time out the cards with, but we don't want to limit people's creativity, so the sky's the limit.

I got a question about the legal doc.

"The following shall constitute a release and license (collectivly the agreement)by__________________ ("submitter or you") with the regard to the submission of an originally composed composition(s) currently referred to as_______________ <<<Ok this one I dont know what Im suppose to put there..is this like the name of my group or name of the songs?

Question #1: You can just put down whatever your CD label says. "Music for Adult Swim" would be fine, or "see attached" - you can pretty much put any kind of general title to the CD so long as it fits. I don't know why Legal gave such a small space for people to fill in track information, but whatever. So long as it makes sense.

Question #2: That Techwood stuff you don't need to worry about. It's for use by the Legal Department.

Some other good ones are Reason, Cakewalk, Steinburg, Sony Acid pro, Ableton.

and some good ones can be purchased for about 99$ for the low end version..which is still very good.

Sweet, Im glad you like them you should hear some of my new stuff..it puts the old ones to shame.
