"The Outsider" - DJ Shadow
I don't really know what to make of this album. It's missing almost everything that made "The Private Press" great, but there's no denying that there are some incredible beats to be found here if you can put up with the constant parade of irritating MCs.
Then, once all the hyphy nonsense is over with the album starts popping up with lackluster indie rock tracks. There's just no flow between tracks. It feels like a mixtape that someone threw together without any sort of concern for how one track would move into the next. I guess you could call it "diverse", but I've heard plenty of diverse albums that flow seemlessly between genres.
Like I said though, it has it's moments (Backstage Girl) but it's a major step backwards for him (anyone like how I review a two year old album as if it was new?).
