I want to say Sounds from Nowheresville by The Ting Tings was my favorite album this week, but that might just be because I am really surprised I liked every track on some level. Huge improvement over We Started Nothing, which has some genuinely terrible songs in it (That's Not My Name being the biggest offender).

Drive Soundtrack. Mostly that song "A Real Hero," though. Someone help me get it out of my head.

i just listened to Curren$y's new album "Muscle Car Chronicles". This is the first Curren$y album i didnt love right away. the beats were strange for Curren$y, which is okay because they were cool, but i feel like Curren$y didn't a do a good job at adapting to a new style of production. not only that, but some of the songs were less than 2 minutes long, and it was only 9 songs long, so it was a really short album. sometimes Curren$y sounded really awkward over the beats, like on "Strangest Life" (which to be fair, wasn't a good beat to begin with). it still had a few songs that were really good. despite the fact that "Fly Out Part Duex" and "Fly Out Part Tres" had the same exact beat (which i should have expected judging by the names of the songs, i guess) they were probably my favorite songs on the album. I feel like the production would have fit the style of a group like M.O.P. much better than Curren$y. but i'm not upset, he still has that album with Alchemist coming out in the Spring. this one was just like... a 5/10 for me.

i also listened to a new Gangrene album "Vodka and Ayahuasca". Gangrene is a collaborative project from producer/rappers The Alchemist and Oh No (who happens to be Madlib's brother). i didn't expect them to release another album after Gutter Water, but this one was really good. the production was just so weird and different that it kind of blew my mind. that's basically why you listen to Gangrene, because The Alchemist and Oh No are amazing together as producers. but i also feel like they improved a lot lyrically. even though they had some pretty huge guest appearances like Kool G Rap, Prodigy from Mobb Deep and Roc Marciano, they still were able to hold down the album mostly by themselves. i can't really describe it... i just really really really like this album. 9/10

The Shins - Wincing The Night Away

Every single song on this album is amazing. I think this is one of the best albums ever. Definitely the best The Shins album ever (2nd best is Oh Inverted World, then Chutes Too Narrow, and then Port of Morrow... for the record).

lee ranaldo -- between the times and tides.

pretty good album. not the typical guitar noise of his other solo albums (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

I've been digging on Eyehategod's "Take as needed for pain". The groovy riffs are reminding me why I loved sludge so much.

Children deform .You can hear them. Hopefully in pain. Screaming love songs. In my head. In my hell.

Tell All Your Friends - Taking Back Sunday

Hear me out.

First off, catchy, and I was twelve once and am always open for nostalgia lapses.

But what I like is reading the lyrics. I like to think of it as a story of two horrible people engaged in mutually assured destruction. One constantly whoring and manipulating, one starting fights with strangers  inbetween alcohol poisonings. Both unwilling to remember what dignity felt like, and take the high road. It's the same instincts that make watching the cops break up a domestic dispute interesting.
