i was gonna make a thread like this, but with all of the albums i listened to this week, because i listened to a lot of albums this week.
1. Jay-Z & Kanye West "Watch The Throne"
the only songs i didnt like from this album were Lift Off, Illest Motherf*cker Alive, H.A.M. and Why I Love You. other than that, this is a pretty solid album. lyrically this album could have been much better, even by Kanye's and Jay's standards. but the production and the concepts is what makes this album so listenable to me... well most of it anyway. 7/10
2. Royce Da 5'9" "Success Is Certain"
Hooks is this album's biggest problem. i dont want to call it a bad album though, because Royce Da 5'9" really went in on this one for the verses. but sometimes the hooks were just kind of corny, like Writer's Block and Merry Go Round. other songs didnt feel like it belonged on the album. My Own Planet is a great song, but it doesnt feel like a Royce song. but it's still a pretty good song. and other than a few rough points, its still pretty solid. 7/10
3. Curren$y & The Alchemist "Covert Coup"
one word can describe this album... "smooth". definitely a good album to just sit back and chill to or bump in the car. great guest features, its good to hear Prodigy back on his BS again. i just started getting into Curren$y, but production wise i think this album is my favorite release from him so far. come December 31, i'm definitely going to remember this one. 9/10
4. Planet Asia "Crack Belt Theatre"
Planet Asia is slowly becoming one of my favorite west coast artists, and after hearing Pain Language and his General Monks mixtape, i had to hear more from him. this album is really good, but it does have some rough points. the first song on the album for example, the sample was dope, but the hook was just WAY too long. and some of the songs dont go past 1:30 long, so sometimes that gets annoying. but other than that, i can honestly say i really enjoyed this project. 8/10
5. Timbo King "From Babylon To Timbuk2"
anyone who's a Wu-Tang fan like me has been anticipating this album for a very long time. its a very VERY good album, but that doesnt mean it doesnt have a few disappointments here and there. the first song, again, sounds like a total mess. it definitely wouldnt hurt to re-record that track before releasing it. other than that, Timbo King goes in on pretty much every song. RZA is supposed to be featured on Wardance, but all he does is scream and shout Wu-Tang and stuff in the background, he doesnt spit a verse... hell he didnt even produce the track, those background vocals were the only thing he contributed to the album. R.A. The Rugged Man sounds out of place on High Ranking. but Timbo King basically does a pretty good job on every track. dope beats, dope rhymes... what more could you want? 8/10
6. Hassaan Mackey & Apollo Brown "Daily Bread"
this was really everything and more that i would expect from an Apollo Brown release. soulful chopped samples, hard hitting drums, neck breaking beats. Hassaan Mackey really delivers too. not a lot of guest features which i really like. sometimes rap albums are overloaded with guest features and it just gets ridiculous. this one only has 2, so its mostly just Hassaan and Apollo every track. i dont really have anything bad to say about this album, one of my favorites so far this year. 9/10
