Well, it might not be much, but I've learn to play the cover of Ozzy Osbourne's "Mr.Crowley" By Cradle Of Filth on the guitar and keyboards.

performed in my studio recital tonight.  As did many people.  All parties were satisfied. :smileyvery-happy:
Shostakovich, Op. 77, Nocturne, from Violin Concerto No. 1 in A min.
It was a very emotional performance.  probably the most emotionally uplifting and releasing I've ever had.
I'll get a recording soon; as soon as i know the library has it.  I'll give details too, probably with unneccesary self-critique.

My dad was a careeer musician. His sage advice was to join the musicians guild if you were going to make a go at it for a living. Their motto being, "no pay, no play".

Then the other little tidbit he shared with me was, "don't try to make a living in music".

The man earned a living playing and eventually selling music.

Not too bad.

He also saw that the trade was becoming more difficult, and he couldn't have imagined doing that in the modern day.

heh, I get paid 30 dollers an hour giving guitar lessons. not too shabby. of course I only have 6 students now. but still thats 180 bucks a week for 3 hours of work (plus it doesn't really feel like work). it's a good second sort of job to suppliment my income. I plan on getting more students when I get more comfortable with teaching.

but seriously, playing anywhere for anyreason for any or no money is what being a musician is all about. sure Money is a good thing, but having that be the deal breaker on if you actually play or not is what is corrupt with the music industry.

well, atleast thats my oppinion.

God bless you for making a living with music. There's a lot to be said for a kid that learns music along with the regular education.

thank ya, comments like that make people feel really good.

I plan on recording canon in D (actually it will be in C) with another dude who is playing the blues traveler song that is basicly canon in C. we kind of played it the other day... but we where too drunk to synk up that well (plus I don't really know the fingerstyle of canon so I gotsta learn it, was winging it) but what we where doing felt so right.

I've just been focusing on fingerstyle and classicle and so much lately that my "chordplay" is kind of suffering.

This reminds me of the recital I did last April.
After listening to the recording I have of myself..man.  I was such a bundle of nerves.  So many silly mistakes...all because I was so nervous.  I get that way when I play by myself.  I'm much more a orchestra/ensemble player.

And I'm still amazed that the pianist and I were able to do the Brahms okay-ish after only 3 rehearsals the week before.  Phew.
My tone suffered from the dress I was wearing-it constricted my shoulder movements.  Hah..

thats not bad advice.  Charles Ives father gave him some advice similar to that; if you're making a living playing a musician, you won't necessairly be playing or doing what you want to do, rather you're catering to the masses/the audience.

I made my own adaptation to "Walking Spanish" by Tom Waits

I also saved 40 dollars for a concertina. :smileyhappy:

In dress I like all black.  I usually have shoes, slacks, and collared shirt that all match.  It's pretty comfy... similar in feeling to everything else I wear.
In orchestra, I'm required to play in a tux.  Eh, it's not that bad.  Provided you've done it often.  I'd even say that sometimes the extra padding on my shoulder is nice.   But for heaven's sake, there's no way you're going to get away playing something good if you don't feel comfortable doing it, so I say change the clothes if you can't feel right.  Just stay w/in dress code.  I think it shows lack of respect both to the audience and to yourself (i.e., to the work you do) if you can't do that.
Eh, I'm talking about classical musicians of course. :smileyindifferent:

...Excuse me?

What is really funny that when I first bought the dress everything worked out fine, but I must of gained muscle mass or something because the shoulders were tight.  Eh, I didn't let it phase me too much.  Just gotta roll with what you have.  I had other reasons to psych myself out other than "omg too tight up there".

What I don't get is how guys can play shoulder stringed instruments with a bow tie.  Seems to get in the way of things.  But I suppose overtime you get used to it and it isn't cumbersom anymore.

You know what all classical musicians should dump en masse?  Cummerbunds.  They are stupid and always in the way of things, like sitting down.

Nice song!

I had to perform at my college recital class Cello Suite No. 1 Courante by Bach on marimba. Although I messed up a few spots, a lot of people complimented me and make me feel awesome!

**bleep** yeah, man.
sounds all right to me.
Me, I've become a big fan of shostakovich lately, of a lot of Russian music set in minor key, actually.  I'll be lucky if I don't get suicidally depressed from all the **bleep** I'm playing this year. :smileyvery-happy:
I'm looking to finish up the Shosty violin concerto in A minor, which is a huge piece of work; right now I'm working on the passacaglia and the preceding mvmt., the scherzo.   I'm playing the "Nocturne" (- Midori... aint me.  eh- actually, my version of this is a lot more angry.  I'm not exactly in love with Midori.) in a recital this Sunday.  very creepy stuff.
I'm also working on Prokofiev's first violin sonata... f minor.  God, I love it.
Aside from that, a Bach sonata for violin and harpsichord (also f min.).  Technically pretty basic, but I've never done anything w/ harpsichord before; it'll be a treat.

I don't have any recordings of me playing, but I may get one soon.

Nocturne is such a beautiful piece!
