One step closer to Thermoptic Camoflague.

[ Edited ]

Some of you may have heard me mention this in the past, but thanks to Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, scientists in Japan began working on a prototype for Thermoptic Camoflague that works by bending light around the user, giving them a distorted invisible appearance. Truth be told, they actually have the technology to make it work, but it's far too bulky to put into a practical application right now.

However, they're not the only ones working on such a concept, and the most recent issue of Discover Magazine has an article saying that we're now one step closer to making it a reality.

(However, this article doesn't seem to be aware of the Japanese findings, but at the same time, there is a conceptual difference between bending light and actually cloaking it.)

If they could eventually make it practical, I would so want it. Of course, it probably wouldn't be available to common citizens as the possibility of using it for crime is blatantly apparent.

Not only that, but how many peeping Toms would use something like that to sneak into girls locker rooms and stuff?

Seeing the picture of the block hiding the paper is amazing. But the article said it currently only works with polarized light.

It certainily is a step closer. Much better than the projector "invisibily" cloaks. I can't wait to finally see true cloaking technology.
