Solid State Society

I watch SSS regularly, and i keep finding similarities between it and the original film (1995).

Is this the case?

You'll find similarities to the original manga across EVERYTHING in GITS. The original movie was a rehash on certain chapters of the original manga. Innocence is an expansion upon another different chapter from the original manga while throwing in a few references to Man-Machine Interface.

Stand Alone Complex recreates and references many scenes across the entire manga series at some point or another, but Solid State Society mainly references Human-Error Processor the most.

So with that in mind, since the original movie referenced the manga, and you're finding similarities between the original movie and SSS, it's because both are referencing the manga.

I see. awesome.

Innocence is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different than anything else in the whole catalog. Completely. Given the difference in time and a few team members probably, what are your thoughts, if any, on why GITS 2 Innocence is, in a way, singled out?

If anything, Innocence takes the most liberties away from referencing the manga (though there are still some in there). It's initial story premise is based off of ONE short chapter early on in the first manga, and somehow manages to expand it into a full length movie. Most of the problems with the Oshii movies in general is he took too much artistic liberties to show off visual wonders instead of focusing on the story. The 5 minute interludes halfway into the movies where they just show the scenery while a woman is whailing away with the music doesn't help either.
