isn't the major a lesbian? i think she is in the manga and some of her friends in the anime make it sound like she is. but if she liked men she'd probably go for batou.

Also, at one episode when they were running away at the end of 2nd GIG, it seemed like the Major may have been a man before the prostetics? Also in another episode, Batou had a picture of himself and a kid, also it looked like someone like the Major was in it too.

yah, i think she is....i saw the manga in the adult graphical novels section in the public library, and rite wen i opened it, i just happened to open it at a part where she and two other girls were linking w/ eachother, and having some hot smex on the deck of a yacht lol...there is also an episode (i think the one where she joins the laughing man chat room) and wen she logs out, she wakes up in her bed, and two other woman are sleeping next to her or something, i forgot

In the first season episode Ag2O (Silver Oxide), Batou went undercover to investigate a potential spy. Section 9 doctored up a photo of him and Motoko as husband and wife along with a kid. It was only for the sake of Batou's mission.

Also: Officially, Motoko is Bi in the manga.

Ah, that's right, I'd forgotten about that picture. What really threw me was the first bit, though. Maybe I slept through most of the series, but I don't remember a single instance where someone can remotely assume that the Major was originally a boy.

Err... pretty sure the Major was a girl. In the first series of S.A.C., notice that the intro shows her crushing a doll? And in one of the episodes, she talks about having broken a doll when she first went full prosthetics?

Also, in 2nd Gig (I believe), there's the episode with the girl from the airplane crash (the Major) and the boy who could/would only fold paper cranes with his left hand (what's his face, the leader of the refugees).
