No, that's not at all what I said, farnsworth.  I have mental disabilities myself.  All I'm saying is that the severely retarded don't have the mental capabilities of humans, or even of apes.  I do NOT think they should be executed, since that's obviously a slippery ####.  I NEVER ONCE SAID we should execute them.  I do, however, think they should be aborted.  Why would you WANT someone to be severely retarded?

And, most of the time, you wouldn't know.  But eugenics isn't a bad idea.  Not all eugenics is Hitler-esque.  It simply aims to improve the human population and prevent things like mental retardation from occurring in the first place.

How do you feel about a family putting a family member to death because they are a burden and can't take care of them/don't want to take care of them?

Were not talking about someone who will become a member of Society. I mean people that require 24/7 care to do even the most basic of tasks, like feeding themselves, bathing, and going to the bathroom.

Nobody is forcing them to do it. The Parents are making the choice to do this.

I also have "mental disabilities", so there's nothing "special" about you.  Get over it.  Having a mental disability is not an excuse to never do anything and leech off of society.  If you are capable of functioning in society, you have no reason not to.  And, once AGAIN, I was referring to people who CAN'T DO ANYTHING.

What is going on in this thread? This doesn't sound like you at all. 

Perhaps all previous conversations with you were not representative of your true personality or perhaps you are simply angry or in the mood to make others angry, but you must know that what you are saying is extremely hurtful to a lot of people and really serves no purpose other than hurting them.

I, personally, spent about 2 years working in the homes of severely developmentally disabled individuals and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the most rewarding work experience of my life. 

Just because these individuals are not able to contribute to society in ways that you deem meaningful or productive does not mean their lives have no value. Just because an individual is unable to speak or care for himself does not mean he is incapable of connecting with other people and enriching their lives as well as his own. Human beings are not robots and the worth of our lives is not so easily summed up by a bank account statement. You cannot dismiss the value of an entire group of people and the impact they may have on innumerable lives based solely on your own myopic view of their limited capabilities. 

Thankfully, the decision of whether or not these individuals will be allowed to continue living or even be born is not up to you and holding this destructive, short sighted view only serves to diminish your own view of the world and all it has to offer.

If you are disgruntled by what you consider the financial burden of caring for these individuals, that is possibly the topic of an actual discussion, but to simply dismiss them as unnecessary is not.
