At least that's what you call youself, Halflings have no need for identity. The spawn of a lustful Human Bard and a drunken Elven maiden, society would rather hide your kind away than look at it. You are only 7 years old, yet already you have lived more than most do in a hundred years, as life in the Corroco Slums can barely be called life at all. One thing it has done, however, is make you good with a dagger and light on your feet. Your small size has always made it easy to take what isn't yours and sell it for food, but this time you've been caught. Now, Swathe, an ambassador to the Thieves Guild, has given you an ultimatum: Join him and become a full fledged rogue, or spend the rest of your life in Galthorn Prison.

"Leave in 3 hours. Take two lefts and a right. I'll be waiting.

I take the key, making no effort to hide my skepticality. I had intended to simply sell the trinket, but I find something about Swathes' tone of voice compelling... No one had ever spoken to me like this before.

You wait in the damp cell for quite some time, listening for the city bell to ring a third time.
After some time, it finally does, and you hear some commotion with the guards. Apparently someone's broken into the larder and all men on duty are to report immediately, leaving the dark dungeon halls completely barren save for the cries of the prisoners.

I remove the key from it's hiding place and hastily test it on my cells' lock...

The lock is rusty, but you manage to open it and the door quietly. As soon as you step out of your cell, one of the other inmates who's awake notices you and threatens to call the guards if you don't help him too. You reach for the key, but it is no longer in your pocket, as though it has vanished.

"My lock picks broke opening my own cell; I will find the keys for you quickly"...

You make your way down the corridor, your ears blinded with the sounds of moans and dripping ceilings. You follow his directions exactly; two lefts and a right, but that only brings you to a plain brick wall. You barely have time to realize you've been lied to when you hear the sound of armored feet running in your direction. You forgot to close your cell door, surely the guards know you've escaped.
Just then, you feel yourself pulled to the wall, which is now open. You see a familiar face as the secret door closes.

Unable to make out exactly who seems so familiar in the dim light, the desperation of the situation leaves me able only to think to ask: "what is this place?"; my lack of knowledge of the individuals' identity failing to prevent me taking a tone of familiarity with them.

"Welcome to the thieves guild, Spen. I think you'll quite like it here"

This man is not the same person you talked to earlier, he is coyer, with a strange charm in his voice. He picks you up from the damp floor and lights a torch with his long Sycam Pipe.
He is wearing a worn dark green overcoat and boots.

"Here, put these on" he says, handing you some rags.

Left with little choice in the matter at the moment, I comply with his request.

You put on the clothes he handed you. A greed hooded jacket and white trousers held up by a belt made of horse hair.

"Are you ready to go?" the man asks

"Ready as I'll ever be," I say with a hint of sarcasm.

The man gives a slight chuckle under his breath and begins to depart, then suddenly turns back to you.

"Oh! How rude of me, my name is Geoffrey. A pleasure."

Geoffrey turns again and leads you down the dark tunnel.

"Spen, likewise." I say, returning the chuckle my sarcasm had not produced in the city, following him.

You walk for some time before coming to a wall with a door and a hooded man standing beside it.

"What is the raven's greatest gift?" the hooded man asks.

Geoffrey responds "silence".

WIth a nod, the hooded man allows you both to pass, but not before glancing at you menacingly out of the corner of his eye.
Beyond the door is a large hemispherical room lit by a plethora of candles. Nothing here looks like anything else in the room; everything must have come from different places.
Geoffrey leads you to your room. It isn't until now that you realize how ling it has been since you last slept.

"Here we are, be sure to get plenty of rest. Training starts in the morning" Geoffrey says.

I enter the room and pass out in exaustion, failing to have even a quick look around for anything to snag for myself once in privacy.

You get the best night sleep you've had in years.

When you awaken, you find yourself on the floor in a lavish palace with a bronze goblet in your hands. you see guards running towards you yelling "STOP!". There is a note inside the Goblet, you don't have time to read it.

I scurry away, clutching the objects.

You run away from the guards and to a window. Luckily, you are only on the second floor.
You jump down into the crowded streets below, running faster than you ever have, goblet in hand.
