Well, I went to Borders and looked through the manga. This first episode covered most of 37 and the first chapter of 38. And they changed Inuyasha's battle with Moryomaru/Goryomaru/whatever
I just read Volume 36 and the Moryomaru battle was in that volume, except they cut Koga out of it in the first anime and put the Koga half of the battle here. This thing is getting more and more confusing. That battle was split between the two series.

That is strange, doxie. The only thing that I can think of is that Sunrise probably knew at that point in the writing and animating process that the Inuyasha anime would be ending, or would at least be on an extended hiatus while Takahashi finished the series. They may have left the Koga part of the battle with Moryomaru out of the original anime to try and provide slightly more closure. They knew that Naraku was still alive and that the story was not yet over, and the "ending" of the original anime was probably the best they could do to provide at least some sense of closure to the anime. With all the unknowns at the time about whether the series would resume, I could see them leaving the Koga part of the battle out, so that the Koga storyline had some closure to it as well. If they had shown his battle with Moryomaru, they would be leaving even more loose ends then they already had to deal with.
That being said, I gave into temptation and watched the new episode. It has been so long since I have seen new Inuyasha that I just couldn't wait until the English dub was out!
I share the mixed opinions expressed here and there in this thread. Even though I haven't read the manga past chapter 356 (roughly where the 1st anime ended), so I don't know what I'm missing, it admittedly felt rushed, almost like what I'd imagine an Inuyasha cliffnotes would be like. On the one hand, the breakneck speed makes it an action-packed episode, but on the other hand, I'd rather have the whole story than the highlights. On the upside, it has the same feel as the original, in that the speed doesn't make me feel like we've lost the charm and feelings of the characters I've come to love. It also still achieves the drama that the original had; that scene in the end there between Sango, Kohaku and the others was emotionally charged! I won't say any more than that to avoid spoilers, though. It is still Inuyasha, and anything Inuyasha is good, and the show is definitely still worth watching. I will probably wait to see them dubbed most of the time rather than watching the subbed (it took me about 45 minutes to watch the entire episode because I found myself pausing frequently to read the subtitles, then rewinding to catch the action I missed while reading the subs), but it had been so long since I saw new Inuyasha that I had to quel that thirst for more.
All in all, I am happy with the new episodes.

Watch this space for a link to the "Inuyasha 3 Word story," in document form, in it's entirety... Yep, it may take a couple months, but I'm putting it together all in one place, in honor of those who helped make it as popular as it was!
Thanks to Crushrose for helping me with this new and improved sig2.0!
