Kagome and Kikyo

Am I the only one who thought that they didn't look at all alike?

Best female in the group. She should have hooked up with inuyasha. We all saw she wanted it when she was drunk >_>

They look extremely similar but I don't know how much of that is attributable to how Takahashi tends to draw the same face for all the main characters of that age. Incidentally I've always felt that if you ignore everything from the hair up on all those age characters in Inuyasha their heads all seem to be shaped like a baseball home plate. Just look at Naraku in my icon for example:smileyvery-happy:

Other than face structure I don't see them looking the same. Different hair, skin color, kogome has a smaller nose that is lower on her face, and not to mention kagome always has larger eyes.

However if this were real life you could put 2 japanese next to each other and I would say they look the same.

Kagome  Kikyo

Yeah me too sometimes i thought the same thing too here are some reasons why I think they look different

eyes

hair

clothes (obviously)

but question is if you were to swap these things in like photoshop or something would they look like the other?

Maybe because Kagome was in the future and she was able to take care of her skin better idk

grrrrrr its too early in the morning for me

Your not the only one.

They never really looked alike to me, in the manga Kagome had a more softer and gentler look, but the facial structure looked nothing like Kikyo's, Kikyo looked more rougher when drawn.

In the anime, they similarities totally are thrown aside.

Personly though Kagome always reminded me more of Midoriko from the anime version, too bad she wasn't actually seen in the manga version, because I could make that connection. Though I did have a theory that Midoriko and Kagome might indeed be reincarnation. It's very possible when you break down everything that happened and peice the peices together.

But yeah, I really didn't find any similarities, Takahashi even after the anime came into play, she adapted her characters to the anime look, my guess is she never intended for them to be similar in the first place, but who knows what was running through Takahashi's mind as she was drawing all of this.

maybe it was meant as a parent sibling thing? You know, like they have some matches but not identical

Fraternal twins? Not sure if that's covered in reincarnation. :smileyvery-happy:

But the same could be said about many of the characters, Rin looks more like Kagome than Kikyo does, I had another crazy theory that Rin might be related to Kagome in some way as well because of that. :smileyvery-happy:

The problem with that is reincarnations should look like one another, they should look like twins, especially in the way Takahashi was going, in the case of these two don't look much alike at all, so it does beg the question, why did she do it in that way?

She could have done what many before he did and made them identical, but why make them different if there supposed to be reincarnations of one another? Makes you wonder if there was something else that Takahashi had in mind for these two.

Yeah Rin looks a lot like Kagome that is true even that one demon says it (forgot the name :smileysad:) and it was not there characteristics that are similiar neither because

they are waaaay to different :smileyvery-happy:, hmm and I wonder they do use the word "resembles" and not "Identical" so is there a definition difference between those two?

Im too lazy to look it up :smileyvery-happy:

Resemblace, in the sense two things look alike. Identical is that they are alike.

But even resemblance comes off as a stretch, there faces aren't all that similar, body, hair, etc. And any small similarities between them can just be chalked up by the aritsts/Takahashi's drawing style.

Yeah that's why I was saying if u could swap their hair eye styles they would still not look alike, what's their age difference? Like 4? (Beginning)

At the beginning of the series, it's estimated Kikyo might be in her early twenties, possible around 18-ish.

But even then, that doesn't apply because.

Final Act/Manga Ending Spoilers:

Spoiler
In the end we see Kagome and she hasn't changed at all in the 3 years that she was away from InuYasha, so age doesn't seem to factor in either.

In the final act

Spoiler
I thought it looked like she grew a bit in those 3 years. Might just be my imagination thinking back though.

Spoiler

Probably shouldn't have said at all. What I should have said is "She looks pretty much the same way that she did in the beginning, except now slightly older with a more mature look to her." Bad choice of words on my part.

That's okay.

As I recall, early in the manga, both Kaede and Inuyasha remarked several times about the resemblance between them.  Inuyasha even said they were practically identical and Takahashi drew them that way, except for the hair.

It was the resurrected version of Kikyo that looked very different; and that was probably due to the lingering anger that she carried back from the grave.

I think that there is probably a Japanese belief that the face refleccts the soul in the same way that there is a Western saying that the eyes are the mirrors to the soul.  If so, the resemblence between Kikyo and Kagome would have stopped with the resurrected Kikyo because she now had an incomplete soul that was supplemented by stealing dead souls.

After all, Kagome was the true owner of the soul now.

Even earlier in the manga, I found it somewhat difficult to find them similar, the hair and there faces were really didn't see much of a heavy resemblance.

Kikyo Before Resurrection

Kikyo After Ressurection

Kagome In The Beginning

Kagome A Little Later On

Some changes, but I still don't see it, but I think the biggest issue was Takakashi's drawing, in the beginning she really couldn't agree on the right look for anyone really, took her a while before they start to look exactly like they did inside the anime.

The Kagome a little later on shot looks likke Kikyo's face, except for the soft sparkle in her eyes.  It is that brightness that is the true difference between them.

I'm not seeing that similarity at all. I'm really not finding a single resemblance in them at all.
