Could agree with that, considering all of the anime that Takahashi has worked with, that is definitely one of her signatures. Natural looks in her characters have gone on through the course of her career, and still do to this day.

 

Symbolism, like this I could see Takahashi using, she always did like applying as much depth into what the character was about, without giving too much away too early in the series.

I see a lot of symbolism in Japanese entertainment, most of which is lost on us Westerners.  One of the most obvious is the hand symbols we see throughout Inuyasha.
