That's if Viz gets off their high horse and gives it to [as] for a decent price. I'm starting to think that the reason [as] doesn't have it yet is because Viz's price is too high.

To play with that infamous quote from that candidate from NY in 2010 whose name eludes me, "Viz's prices are too damn high!"

Sorry, I just couldn't resist... ![]()
Also, I can see what you mean there... There's no reason why [as] wouldn't want to put Kanketsu-hen on air... at all. It would be what they need for ratings, especially because it's related to their second longest running show and a constant source of high ratings and revenue for them...

I remember reading somewhere that [as] was expected to not renew their license to Inuyasha in 2009 because it was such an expensive one. Viz must have relented, posssibly because of the impending FA production. I'm pretty sure they were working on it with Sunrise for many months before the premiere.

[as] has a financial imperative to maintain a positive cash flow. If it costs them more for the license than they can make back in advertising revenue, they can't keep the license. If Viz demands more for the license than [as] can make through airing the episodes, [as] can't afford to buy it.
That may all be reflected in the anime announcements they made last year when they obtained Kekkaishi, and later Durarara! I would bet those licenses were less expensive than FA. I also suspect that the same reason may ultimately prevent them from resurrecting Toonami in the form that everybody remembers. I know they have a real demand for the product. But is that demand large enough to validate the cost? I have no way of knowing. Only the network executives have that kind of knowledge.
However, as time goes by, I feel more and more that money is the stumbling block to getting FA. The fact that very few people mentioned FA as a candidate for Toonami in that thread doesn't help either.

It means that all the fanboys and fangirls spent the whole night steeped in nostalgia. I half watched most of the shows because I hadn't seen most of them and didn't know what was going on; and I had to watch the board end of April 1st.
The one thing I did notice about the last two shows was they had premiered when I was a child. All I remember about them is that I didn't find them interesting at the time and never watched. That was the 1950's, a terribly long time in human terms. Seeing that, I can understand why Toonami ultimately died. In its own way, it was just as stale as everybody says the anime block on [as] is now. Once the initial flush of nostalgia wears off, everyone will get bored with the lineup and demand something new and exciting, just like now.
Personally, I think the whole thing was a prank, like the initial showing of The Room in 2009. [as] likes to play nasty pranks on April 1st. I regard this as just another one of them. The nature of the prank is to make everybody go all fanboyish and be thrilled about having their prayers answered, then snatch it all away.
I see two scenarios. The first is [as] pulled another prank with no intention of following through on it. The second is that it was an amusing experiment. The fans showed they are in love with the Toonami brand. That brand can be an entry point into an earlier portion of the block for anime and action shows. It might also be a means to get youth rated material that would not be considered normal [as] fare. Move over. The WB cartoon reruns are following the Fox comedies to [as]. That would be the biggest joke of all.
And believe me. I really feel that [as] did this as a joke. They are probably still laughing at the gullible anime nerds right now.

In an odd way, this was the perfect revenge for all the complaints about programming that people lodge on this board, and probably on facebook as well. Negate all their complaints; and give them false hope as well. Absolutely perfect for a group of guys that enjoy trolling their fans, and actually consider it a valid trademark.

The execs at Williams Street. The April 1st prank fest is something that is now ingrained in the station's mystique. They love messing with the fans' heads. One year, they even totally locked up the boards, and left them that way for over 25 hours. Only the folder for The Room was left open. Now that's a mean prank.

What's this, somebody found InuYasha shirts at a thrift store?! I never would have thought to look there!
And yeah, about the "new clothes" thing. I haven't noticed a funny smell so much as they seem stiff and itchy. I have to wash everything before I wear it. Plus, who knows who or what touched it while it sat in the warehouse and then on the racks at the store! And yeah, if it is a shirt with those pictures on them, you gotta' wash inside out!
Interesting conversation you guys got into about Toonami, although I think Doxie is way off base on why it got canceled. It didn't get canceled because it got "stale", it was canceled because they'd put progressively crappier shows on it, took off a lot of the good shows, then relegate it to one day a week, then they tried to kiddy-ize it and made Tom into an abomination. It really was messy how it all ended up. Then they tried that Miguzi thing to replace it, which failed.
But yeah, I don't think Toonami would wear out its welcome if it came back. Granted, you've got to have some new shows on it, and I don't see why the current Saturday ACTN roster couldn't be folded into it. Or, you could have Toonami, then Saturday ACTN. Actually, that's how it was for a short time. I miss those days... Nevertheless, I hope for Final Act to appear on Adult Swim/Toonami/whatever in some form or fashion!
As for being happy with Inuyasha and Cowboy Bebop being in place, that's actually what was stated in that Marzgurl video I mentioned. They talked about how InuYasha fans would complain if it got taken off the air, but then never watched it when it was actually on the air. Granted, I'm not necessarily in agreement with that, and I always watched InuYasha (when it was still on at a reasonable hour), but... still.

DoxieMoxie wrote:Both. The demand is not as high as it used to be; but the supply is virtually non-existent. The calendar didn't get put up o Amazon until late March, or maybe April. Last year, it was up in Febuary.
And that's just wonderful. I had hoped that prices had gone down as time went on. But, it seems that even the broker I get, the more expensive the stuff becomes. Maybe there will be a nice package deal when Final Act comes out.
I can think of a similar situation with the original Tron movie DVD. It was rare and expensive, up to collector's item status, up until the new movie came out, then you could get it in a collection with the second one, or by itself for a decent price. Here's hoping...

Grrr... yeah, but...
But that's not Toonami's fault! For years it was a viable product. Chalk it up to more of Williams Street's bungling (some think Toonami was intentionally killed, though). Anyway, I'm kinda' shocked that you would say you only half-watched the shows. Toonami played a lot of the best anime and and action shows around, and its DBZ airings are what made me an anime fan! You would be remiss to not check out some of those shows, methinks.
And I can admit that I was never a huge fan of Gundam Wing or Tenchi Muyo, and missed out on Outlaw Star when it originally aired, but I still watched them on April 1st because... TOONAMI!
