LoverDemon can correct me if I'm wrong; but originally the swim.con ranks were all supposed to be the same, essentially one rank coming from the event.  In the end we wound up with something like 8 ranks (not counting the rank for the special guests) all at once.

The ranks were supposed to be the same if I remember correctly, but the badges next to there names were supposed to be different depending on the contest they won during the Con, that's what I recall. Though I simply remember Luuv saying "The prize will be badges (next to the users SN". With a badge comes a rank of course, it's mandatory, I tried to run a contest once that was for just a badge, but was told that the rank had to go with it, hence the badge and rank on your account Doxie.

I just learned that for Zarisxune.  The tag is tied to the rank.  That means there should be a different rank for each tag.  That's how 1 event produced 8 new ranks; but all those ranks at once meant that extra ranks beyond that will be too hard to come by.  The IY board just used up its rank for maybe the next entire year.

That's the key.  A lot of people get tired of looking at the same rank after a while and give them up.  Humbug has been recycling them through other contests.  That's how I got the rank for the last contest, the one that sohadow ran.  The cosplay rank was strictly in honor of Halloween; but I can't count on getting another anytime soon.  However, if people give the rank away when they tire of it, then that rank can't become available for another contest or a wiki and it no longer represents hard work but just who is your friend.

yeah pretty much, so i just gave up on him. But I have Tensa Zangetsu, Ichigo's Bankai outfit, the shoes, and vizard mask. I just need the orange wig. And eventually, i will try to cosplay Naraku(Not the baboon outfit)

That threw me off too, when I looked at that, just had a CYOCC last month. A fanfic contest is way overdue though, that would have been my next contest, but of course I became helper around that time, but that was through a suggestion by Mafia.
