Viz brought it over; but they made a total mess of the translation.  If you refer to it, you will get more misinformation than information.

And you can always edit a post, even one that has been replied to, especially if it hasn't been quoted.  :smileytongue:

The same clue was present in the manga and Final Act.  Look at Kagome standing next to her mother in the last episode both before the gap and after it.  Then look at her standing next to Inuyasha in the same two time frames.  She grew taller, and so did he.  The screen caps are in one of the two FA threads.  If Inuyasha grew taller over 3 years, what does that say about his developmental speed?  (Especially when Shippo remained the same?)

I'm not surprised that Inuyasha grew taller. Guys shoot up at the end of puberty, like at 18 and 19, which is where they both fell at that point. Heck, I noticed that he grew a bit even before the gap. But how did Kagome grow? We usually stop growing a few years after the onset of puberty, so she should've stopped growing, as a rough estimate, by the time the adventure was over. But then again, women still do grow a little bit until 25, if I've understood correctly.

She would have been growing up to 16 or 17.  That fits into the gap.

That makes sense, but since she's so short and petite it still doesn't seem like much. I honestly didn't think twice about it until you brought it up. :smileyvery-happy: I stopped growing a little bit before I hit that range, so I guess that it's about the right age range. Inuyasha was how tall at the beginning? 5'7, 5'8? He must been at least 5'9 after the skip... He was getting tall. I also noticed, after a point in the first series, that the difference between his and Kagome's height had slightly increased.

Did they?  I know certain fans can be quite nitpicky and elitist when it comes to localization of things.  I remember a guy who would ask me what Viz would call the new attacks just so he could comment on it and laugh, probably while wearing a monocle. :smileyvery-happy: But, if they did botch it, that's a shame...

Yeah I know, but I don't feel like going to the trouble, at this point. :smileytongue: My PC is loading the pages okay now, so I don't want to go back and jinx things.

Oh yeah, I remember when you guys were talking about that.  I was a bit hesitant to read too much into stuff like that.  Do you really think they'd go to that level of attention of detail?  Especially when in some episodes of the original series, the size of the transformed Tetsusaiga wasn't even consistent... But, if you're right, then yeah... Inuyasha probably ages much like a human, but then I still don't get why he would say he doesn't have to worry about getting old for a while.

His sense of time was warped... By the time they were in Kaede's hut and he was talking like that, he probably hadn't even awake for 12 hours. Plus, why not trash talk and insult in every conceivable way the woman who you thought betrayed you? :smileyvery-happy:

Inuyasha started out at 5'6" and Sesshomaru at 5'10".  However, we never get to see them standing together after the gap to confirm that their heights were more similar.

I accept that as proof that Inuyasha was still growing, and growing like a human.  Hence, he had to be only 15-16 when we first see him.

The only reference after the gap is

Spoiler
Inuyasha hugging Kagome.

But then again, even there they weren't at their full heights/totally erect while standing...

Spoiler
You're slightly hunched when you hug...

However, assuming Kagome was 5'1 for the entire series and no taller than 5'3 at that point, he could've very well hit the taller range at 5'8/5'9, at least...

It must be lithium.  I was having long load times, too.

It was explained somewhere that Tessaiga's size and shape could vary according to Inuyasha's emotional state.  The more energy his emotions generated, the larger it got, especially early on and just after Totosai repaired it.  Later on, he seemed to have more control over it and its transformations were a bit more uniform.

Then, of course, there were the plain bloopers, like the size and number of his necklace beads changing, as well as their shape and color.

Well, it seemed more like he was talking trash to Kaede than anyone else.  I dunno', for some reason, when he said "I'm sure glad I don't have to worry about getting old... at least not for a while" I figured that he was letting on that he won't get old as soon as a human would.  But, a young human boy could possibly say something similar.  When you're that age, getting old isn't something you're too worried about.  Who knows...

Sesshomaru is only 5 foot 10 inches?  I figured he was at least six feet, if not more.  I guess it's just that he's taller than most of the other characters, who aren't that tall to begin with.  I need to readjust my sense of person scale for Japan, I guess.  We always used to joke that Piccolo from DBZ would just be the height of an average man in America, hahaha.

So, it's not just my POS machine then?  That's good to know, I guess.

I dunno', that sounds like a copout to me.  And I don't remember hearing it anywhere.  The only time I can think of its size varying and having a good explanation was for a very specific incident, when Sesshomaru was using it via that dead human arm.  It was in states of mid-transformation thanks to Kagome hitting it with purifying arrows, and Sesshomaru slowly transforming it back.  (those are still probably my two favorite episodes)

I think the art was just inconsistent, if you ask me. :smileyvery-happy: I remember sometimes the sword would be nearly as long as InuYasha is tall, and other times it would be just a bit longer (but much wider, of course), than the katana form.

Naraku, as Lord Hitomi, is the tallest at 6'2".  Most Japanese, before the current generation, are much shorter than Americans.  Only Sumo wrestlers have historically been very tall.

I believe that the sword size notes were in the animation explanations; but Tessaiga was definitely supposed to have different sizes and shapes early on depending on Inuyasha's intensity, and more especially after his fang was added to it.

That makes sense.  So, Naraku is taller than Sessomaru, then?  I always thought they were about the same.  Huh.  But yeah, it makes sense... I guess, even though Sesshomaru and Naraku aren't human... But, I suppose they wanted to keep all characters in heights of the average Japanese person.  Well, it makes sense for Naraku, anyway, since he took the form of Lord Kagewaki.  Is Hitomi the same as Kagewaki?  That's the first time I'm hearing this name.

Are you serious?  I've never heard that.  I always figured it was just inconsistent/sloppy art.  Really, the size of the sword in relation to emotional intensity is nothing I ever would have considered or thought of.  None of the characters ever bring this up and it's never actually addressed in the series, that I know of.  You'd think they'd notice the difference and say something, too.

re: The pictures

I'll give you this much - I can tell that Kagome got closer in height in relation to her mother, and that Inuyasha's face looks longer, more adult and mature, than before.  But, it's hard to see much more than that.

Good pictures! I have a few issues with perspective though... Also, another good shot with Kagome and her mom would be their farewell... It matches their position in the pre-time skip photos, so it could work as a reference. I actually have a few good photos- not much in quality, but they can give good height clues- from the last episode of TFA that could help. I'll get them on PB and share them in a few...

In the earlier picture, the top of Kagome's head comes up to Inuyasha's eyebrow.  In the later one, she only comes up to his eyelash.  Add that to the fact that she has grown compared to her mother and Inuyasha must have grown even more than she did.  That means his rate of growth matches that of a human male of about 18-20.

Hmmm, you might be on to something.  A lot of talk has been made of the character designs differing from the original show as well, though.  Though, who knows if this was changed just because of how art styles evolved since then and for other innocuous reasons, and how much of it was intentional and deliberate.

Although, I didn't notice that much of a difference, and I have to admit I didn't pay that close attention to how tall people are.  But, if you look at Inuyasha from the first episode of the original series and the final episode of Final Act, you can definitely see a difference.  He does actually look older.  So yeah, maybe he does age like a human, then!

That is why I tried to take the reference shots all from the same spisode, to eliminate that as a factor.

Again, a lot of those images show dubious footing for one or the other character and the Flower Prince scene had them standing on sloping ground at the end.  I tried to grab close-ups from scenes where they were shown standing flat-footed on a level surface in earlier and later frames.  I even checked the graduation sequence to make sure that Kagome was wearing flat shoes and nothing with even a small heel.

The ones from the last episode were all pretty good though and gave about a good sense of where they stood. From the Kaou arc, I guess that makes sense, but considering that they were standing right next to each other, I think that wouldn't have really been much of a factor. Like I said, even in the first series, I noticed him starting to get taller.
