Joke answer: Well I assume feudal japanese history would have been greatly altered, assuming it didn't get destroyed, maybe they could've manufactured them in great numbers and conquered the earth.

 

In universe answer: Is this at the beginning of the series? Well regardless Sesshomaru in all likelihood takes it from him easily enough and kills anyone he so pleases.

(Inu can't figure out how to operate light saber. Looks down business end.  Accidentally triggers transformation.  Cuts off own head.  Sesshomaru picks it up.  Accidentally triggers transformation while inspecting.  Cuts off own other arm.  Exit Sesshomaru.  Kagome picks up saber.  "I know how to work it. Just press this button."  Slides trigger and destroys all bystanders.  Fade to black with maniacal laugh echoing.  End episode.) 

 

Total time elapsed: 45 sec.

This part is no joke.  Lucas once said that The Force was based on the Shinto concept of the Universal Kami from which everything in the universe springs.  It is the energy that creates everything animate and inanimate (and at least two of the four souls sprang from it, but not the two Izumo mentioned in this morning's episode).
