It's kinda hawt. Look at the first picture in the second row. He's really angry but it's hawt. I don't understand.

That's from the panther arc.  He wasn't really angry there so much as telling Inuyasha to get lost, as he was walking away.

What does he have to smile about in the manga that he doesn't in the anime?

Sesshomaru had many more facial expressions in the manga than in the anime.

It was in "Tessaiga and Tenseiga."  When speaking about Totosai, Jaken says to Sesshomaru "You can't blame him for not liking you. Your resume is one long death wish!"  Sesshomaru smiles, and Jaken thinks to himself that he just shortened his life span by 100 years!

Here are some examples. Not all of them are smiles, but he shows some type of emotion on his face. It's very different from the anime.

In most cases, the manga is always better. And if you like the anime, then you'll love the manga. If you have a Books-A-Million, they sell some manga there (though my store seems to have cut back on their manga for some unknown reason).

I was actually just reading the manga chapters where Sesshomaru saves/adopts Rin yesterday and was kinda surprised by some of the facial expressions he was given, very different from that part of the anime, at least I think I haven't seen those episodes in the anime in quite some time.
