Everyone has their own opinions, and in mine, I don't really think it's girly. And even if it was, does it really matter? Just do what you enjoy doing and all that gobbledy **noel**.

i always thought of it as an anime that strongly appeals to both sides.

but me and my friends were watching assorted anime last night on hulu. one of my friends found Inuyasha and we decided to watch it. this particular friend who said Inuyasha was a girly anime doesnt like anime in general, and is basically was the only person in the room at the time that didnt watch anime (we have other friends who hate anime). anyway, we were watching the last episode of the Final Act (thats the one this girl friend of mine wanted to watch, don't ask why) and half way through the show he says exactly these words: "This show is for girls"...

Though Inuyasha isn't very much like DBZ.  I guess they just chose another popular anime as a reference point.

Quite honestly I am confused about why IY was in a shounen mag. It has nothing at all in common with every other shounen I've seen or read.

I could see why it gets classified as girly, but until the blatant Robot Chicken clip declaring it to be so I never really noticed those aspects of this series that much. Going in I mostly just responded to the action. To answer your question I'd say it depends on the person. I don't consider it girly in a "real men can't enjoy" sense, but do in a both genders can enjoy much of what they see kinda way...if that makes any sense...

Well, it also kind of implies that the only way women can be entertained is if there is romance involved.  I'd like to thinks this isn't always the case.  Or, at least I hope it isn't.

That being said, I think InuYasha does a good job of having something for everybody.  It's got action, drama, comedy, romance, you name it, and I never felt like the romance overpowered the rest of the story.  It's there, for sure, but it definitely takes a back seat most of the time.

But no, I definitely would say it's not a girly anime.  From what I understand via a comment I read on these boards years ago, in fact, most of the Japanese fans are actually male, and even weirder than some of the girl RIFs we have over here.  Yeah, I don't think I want to know much more than that...

Its both. Its one of the few animes I've seen that can legitimately claim to be appealing to both women & men.

There's blood, swearing, half-demons, demons, screaming each others names, hitting of small fox demons, 167 episodes + 26 episodes for the sequel + 4 movies, so yes it's girly.

It's the girliest animu of all time!!!

I don't know.  I guess the myth of Herakles/Hercules can be considered a girly story, too, since most of his motivations came from losing his wife and family.
