THE OFFICIAL KING OF THE HILL CHARACTER GUIDE

THE HILL FAMILY

Hank Hill

  • Voiced by Mike Judge
  • Hank is in love and is obsessed  with anything related with propane and propane accessories. He also has a love for his bloodhound Ladybird (which he does with less shame compared to his family members). He loves being a Texan, even though he eventually found out he was orginally born in New York City. He doesn't like to talk about his problem of having a narrow urethra (a problem he shares with his half Japanese brother). In H.S. he played American football until he snapped his ankle. After he graduated from H.S. he worked at Jeans West until he met Buck Strickland (who inspired his love of propane). Common phrases that could be heard from Hank are: BWAH! (when scared), Ugh! (when disappointed), and I tell you what!, and I'm gonna kick your ass! (Entry by xXxSABRINAxXx)

Margaret "Peggy" Platter Hill

  • Voiced by Kathy Najimy
  • Hank's wife, Peggy,is from Montana. Her family owns a cattle farm. She is a substitute teacher at Tom Landry Middle School. She has won "Substitute Teacher of the Year" 3 years running. She thinks she speaks fluent spanish, but her vocabulary is sub par at best. She has a bad  habit of adding or changing ingredients to ordinary dishes then naming them after herself. (entry by TheOneTuttle)

Bobby Hill

  • Voiced by Pamela Adlon
  • Bobby Hill is a student at Tom Landry Middle School, and has his 13th birthday as the show progresses. He is an average student, overweight, and hasn't experienced puberty like his friends Joseph and Connie. Unsurprisingly, Bobby shows little interest in sports and other physical activities (much to the chagrin of his father, Hank). Despite this, Bobby is quite popular at school, largely because he makes other students laugh with his prop comedy. Besides comedy, Bobby's interests include playing video games, riding bikes with his best friend Joseph, and spending time with his neighbor and occasional girlfriend Connie. His favorite foods include prepackaged fruit pies and chopped liver sandwiches from the deli. (entry by itsacoaster)

Tilly (Hill) Garrison

  • Voiced by Tammy Wynette ('97 - '98), Beth Grant ('99), and K Callan (2000 - 2009)
  • When she was married to Cotton Hill, he would verballyabuse and mistreat her. She often wished Hank would come to her help her when Cotton mistreats her in front of him but would get disappointed becasue he doesn't. Because of this, it lead to her collection of glass miniatures. Years after her divorce from Cotton, she dated Gary Kasner.  It didn't last seeing how she started dating, and eventually married, Chuck Garrison behind Gary's back. With both guys, Hank didn't really like them when he first met them and felt nervous. Tilly is very active for some her age which worries Hank even more. (entry by xXxSabrinaxXx)

Cotton Hill

  • Voiced by Toby Huss
  • Hank's father, World War 2 veteran, and father of three children: Hank, Good Hank, and Junichiro, the illegitimate child. Cotton is a violent, intolerant, and cynical elderly man, who likes to hit on random women throughout the series.  Had his shins blown off in Japan, contributing to the strange walk he shows prominently throughout the series.  Was married to Tilly Hill, but separated due to his tiredness of her, he later married DiDi who mothered a child for Cotton. While Cotton repeatedly tries to demean Hank and Peggy, by referring to Peggy as "Hank's Wife" he has a remarkably good relationship with Bobby, even saying that Hank was a better father than him because of Bobby. (entry by Naraku4656)

DiDi Hill

  • Voiced by Ashley Gardner
  • Didi is Cotton's second wife and a candy striper. She has breast implants and suffers from postpartum depression following the birth of Cotton's third son "G.H." She is generally depicted as docile and unintelligent, although she has a degree in optometry. Didi speaks in a voice reminiscent of Ginger from Gilligan's Island and was once a fellow student in Hank Hill's kindergarten class (in her first appearance, she asks Hank if he still likes finger painting). (entry by smile_you_suck)

Good Hank Hill

  • Cotton wanted to name his newborn son "Hank." However, he already had agrown son named Hank who refused to give the name back, so he decided (almost out of spite) to pick the name G.H., short for "Good Hank," due to the fact that he didn't like Hank and considered him a sissy. Upon G.H.'s arrival, Cotton attempted to rename Hank to B.H. ("Bad Hank"), which angered Hank. (entry by smile_you_suck)

Junichiro

  • Voiced by David Carradine
  • Illegitimate son of Cotton, and Japanese half-brother of Hank Hill. Very similiar to Hank Hill which includes both of them sharing a problem with their urethra being narrow, and is an assistant manager in a Robotics company manufacturing Robots and Robot accessories. (entry by Naraku4656)

Dusty Hill

  • Voiced by Dusty Hill
  • Real life bass player for ZZ Top, in the show he is Hank's cousin. Shown to be irresponsible, as he enters Cotton's Cadillac in a demolition derby, and almost destroys the car. He drives Hank insane by all of his antics, but they are able to make amense when Dusty agrees to fix the car. (entry by Naraku4656)

Ladybird

  • Ladybird is the family dog of the Hills family. She is 14 years old (or 98 in human years) & a Georgia Bloodhound. She is named after former first lady Lady Bird Johnson. Out of everyone in the family, Hank has the best relationship with her and probably gives her more attention then he does with his own wife and son. It was revealed that the presence of Ladybird, when she was a puppy, helped Hank and Peggy conceive Bobby. Some things we learn about Ladybird in the show are that she can dance (when Bobby was dancing with her for a dog dancing contest) and that she reacts to certain situations based on how Hank feels (as when Hank wasn't happy whena repairman was working on his heater). (entry by xXxSabrinaxXx)

THE GRIBBLE FAMILY

Dale Gribble

  • Voiced by Johnny Hardwick
  • Man of many professions, the most prominent being the owner of "Dale's Dead Bug" the extermination service he runs. Dale is a paranoid delusion character who thinks that everything and everything is some sort of government conspiracy. Dale is so paranoid, that on any governement document he signs the name "Rusty Shackleford" a person Dale thought died when he was in third grade, though it is revealed later that Rusty is alive and had just moved. Surprisingly though, Dale does not realize that Joseph is not actually his son, but it actually the love child of Nancy and John Redcorn, nor does he find this out throught the series. At one point, Dale thought that Joseph wasn't his son, and instead deduced that he was the son of aliens impregnating his wife. He owns numerous guns, and is also the president of the Arlen Gun Club. (entry by Naraku4656)

Nancy Gribble

  • Voiced by Ashley Gardner
  • Nancy had an affair with her medical healer John Redcorn. A result of her affair is the birth of her son Joseph. Joseph, and even Dale, doesn't seem to realize that Joseph is really John Redcorn's son. Nancy used to be the weather woman for the local news station until she was replaced by a professional meteorologist. She was given the anchor position. When on the air, she includes her maiden name thus being called Nancy Hicks Gribble. Nancy frequently calls everyone "Sug" (entry by xXxSabrinaxXx)

Joseph Gribble

  • Voiced by Brittany Murphy (seasons 1 - 4) & Breckin Meyer (seasons 5+)
  • Joseph is best friends with Bobby Hill. Like his "father" he is unaware that John Redcorn is his real father. Despite not being blood related, Joseph and Dale are similar in ways like with the theories Dale is always talking about. In the early seasons, Joseph clearly had a crush on Bobby's cousin Luanne. During the seasons, Joseph went through puberty by growing a mustach & becoming taller even more than Bobby who still haven't experience it. He also becomes more athletic joining sports like lacrosse and football. Even though Dale is proud to have a son so athletic it still scares him. (entry by xXxSabrinaxXx)

Bug Gribble

  • Voiced by David Herman
  • Dale's father, who alienated his son during Dale's wedding by pretending to flirt with Nancy, however it would come to light years later that it was actually a cover up for the fact that he was a closeted homosexual. He currently works at a rodeo, and is the inspiration for Dale's "Dead Bug" service. (entry by Naraku4656)

Luanne Platter

  • Voiced by Brittany Murphy
  • She moves in with her aunt and uncle because marital problems between her parents (her mom stabbed her dad with a fork) and the trailer she lived in capsized. She created a Christian themed puppet show called the Manger Babies. At the end of the second season, Luanne's then boyfriend, Buckley, caused an explosion at the Mega Lo Mart where he worked. Luanne, Buckley, Hank, and Chuck Mangione, were all trapped inside at the time. With the return of the third season, all but Buckley survived. In the process, Luanne lost all her hair. When the show began, she was attending Arlen Beauty College. She has shown to not be good at the profession. She eventually enrolled at the Community College, after having a vision from Buckley. Her major was never mentioned. Throughout the series, Luanne have had many relationships. Eventually, she dated and married Lucky Kleinschmidt. They have a daughter named Gracie. (Entry by xXxSabrinaxXx)

Leanne Platter

She is only seen in one episode where she is released from prison and tries to hook up with Bill. Bill sees this as a good thing, but as Leanne starts to drink again, everyone else sees that she is once again back to her destructive ways. Bill stops the relationship as he comes to this realization as Leanne disappears with Bill's truck, not to be seen in a speaking role again. (Entry by Naraku4656)

Maddy Platter

  • voiced by Joanne Gleason
  • Peggy and Hoyt's mother, widowed and living on a ranch in Montana. She dislikes Peggy for leaving the family ranch, and not dating, and eventually marrying, a local man. Peggy tries to mend her relationship with her mother by saving the ranch, however her mother doesn't appreciate this. Peggy gives up on her relationship with her mother, and instead tries to make her bond to her son and husband stronger. (Entry by Naraku4656)

Hoyt Platter

  • Voiced by Johnny Knoxville
  • Father of Luanne, Peggy's elder brother, and Leanne's ex-husband (if you can paraphrase his family connections better feel free, I couldn't really think of a way to make this part sound more original) he was said to have been working on an oil rig, but it turned out to be a cover to conceal his convict past. Only seen for one episode, he was released from prison and began to commit crimes again, but blamed Lucky for it. He was later caught in a crime by Hank and Peggy, and was sentenced to life in prison. Luanne was lead to believe that he actually had signed a lifetime contract to remain on the oil rig. (Entry by Naraku4656)

Doc Platter

  • No Voice Actor Information Found
  • Doc is Peggy's father. Hank thinks he's a wise old man, but he is really just going senile (entry by drunkenwarrior)

Lucky asked Hank to force Luanne to marry him in a shotgun wedding, as it was how the rest of his family members were married, and he wanted to be wed in the same tradition. Lucky recieved $53,000 after an accident at a Costco, where he slipped and fell. He looses most of the money at one point, but is able to regain it when a lawyer settled with him over an unrelated matter. (entry by Naraku4656)

Gracie Margaret Kleinschmidt

  • No voice
  • Luanne and Lucky's daughter. She was the reason that Lucky married Luanne in a shotgun wedding. Luanne almost gave birth to her in a hippie clinic with no real doctor or pain medication, she later changed her mind and wanted to be on pain medication for the birth of her daughter. She originally wanted to name her Lasagna, because she was doped up on pain medicine, but Peggy stopped Luanne from naming her Lasagna and instead decided on Gracie. (entry by Naraku4656)
