I agree the paced changed in later seasons, but I think it always had the same spirit and style of comedy although it didn't come out of it's shell until about season 4 or 5, but it was a fairly low budget show at least early on. I think the show kept getting better with age the characters evolved and the dynamics of the episode plots expanded, and I think they held off on some humor when it started. Although I will agree a few episodes in the later seasons did feel kind of stale but in my book most of the episodes were hits, very few misses.
That's just my opinion, I am a fan of the later seasons. I was just saying who knew where the characters would be by the time it ended. I honestly think the show aged well and I enjoyed the ride from start to finish.
