Loren Bouchard is a writer, director, composer, and producer responsible for the Adult Swim shows Lucy Daughter of the Devil, Home Movies, and the pilot Saddlerash.  He is also a creator of the current Fox hit Bob's Burgers, and is largely responsible for shows such as Dr Katz Professional Therapist, and Science Court, and acted as consulting producer for the Ricky Gervais Show.  Other Adult Swim contributions include composing music for Assy McGee.

A high-school dropout, Bouchard was working as a bartender in 1993 when he bumped into a former grade school teacher of his, Tom Snyder. Snyder asked if Bouchard was still drawing, and then offered Bouchard a chance to work on a few animated short films Snyder was making.^[1] The shorts developed into Bouchard's first series, Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, which he produced. He credits Jonathan Katz, H. Jon Benjamin, and Tom Snyder as major influences.^[2] Dr. Katz ran for six seasons, from 1995-2000. He also produced one season of Science Court, another animated show made by Soup2Nuts.^[3]

Towards the end of Dr. Katz, Bouchard and Brendon Small teamed up to create Home Movies.^[2] The show was picked up initially by UPN, who dropped it after five episodes; the remaining eight shows from season one, and the subsequent three seasons were shown on Adult Swim. The show was not renewed after the conclusion of the fourth season in 2004.

After Home Movies concluded and another Bouchard pilot, Saddle Rash, was not picked up, Bouchard created Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil. The show's pilot was created on October 30, 2005, but it was not until September 2007 that the show debuted as a weekly feature on Adult Swim.^[4] He is also currently a consulting producer on HBO's The Ricky Gervais Show.^[5]

Bouchard is currently producer for the series Bob's Burgers, which premiered on January 9, 2011 on Fox.

Bouchard lives in San Francisco^[6] with his wife, Holly Kretschmar. The couple married on September 6, 2006.^[7]

1. Are there any differences between developing a show for a big network like Fox and developing one for Adult Swim?

3. Is it any coincidence that Ollie and Andy Pesto are highly reminiscent of Walter and Perry?

Dear Mr. Bouchard,

Did you ever meet Mitch Hedberg when he did voices on Home Movies or Dr. Katz? Do you remember him at all? What was he like?

What would you say the context for Home Movies is? I always kind of felt there was a serious underlying text throughout the series, just from the way it was portrayed as a young child in elementary school with a very mature personality.

yes. we weren't burnt out or bored or anything like that, in fact we were in a groove, I think, work-wise - felt like we knew what we were doing and were having fun - but there was a shared sense of this-feels-like-a-good-place-to-stop.
like masturbation, I guess, or drinking - good to stop before things get out of control.

great question. depends what you're into. Benjamin's is smaller, like a gymnast's. brendon's is beefier, like a hockey player.

no. that won't likely happen though we're so grateful that the existing episodes are still kicking around and being found by new viewers, etc... I'm sure we owe the universe something home movies related. but, new episodes is probably not it.
