I was wondering if personally, you would like to see Bob's Burgers syndicated on Adult Swim in the future?

yes of course. adult swim is near and dear to my heart. and if bob's is lucky enough to make it to syndication, that's where I'd want to see it. plus, adult swim gave the cast and writers of bob's burgers so many free drinks at comic-con this year, if we do sell the show to AS we could knock a few hundred bucks off the license fee and make it up to them.

I'm talking about pickle backs. any one out there had one of these? it sounds gross, but it's really good.

but for serious now, I've wondered if there was any symbolism in the characters that were chosen by the kids to play in their movies. For an obvious one, landstander seems to be the exact opposite literal of skywalker, making me believe the hero drama developing between the princess and the landstander was going to end up being a bizzarro, if you will, interpretation of star wars...which would have been awesome to play to conclusion.


Or am I just completely in outer space on this one.

both completely wrong credits on imdb. I don't do voiceover. no idea how those things got on there. too lazy to fix them. please advise.

Bob's Burgers seems like it'd go great on AS. I really hope it does get syndicated someday, instead of being relegated to once a week on Fox forever.

I also love how Home Movies ended. It somehow provided all the closure I needed to be OK with the show ending, even though more episodes would have been great.

Lucy, it seems like didn't get to shine as much as it could have. Is there anything you wish had gone down differently with that, or are you pretty satisfied with how things turned out even though it didn't end up getting renewed?

A lot of characters in your shows seem to share names with their voice actors. Is there a reason for this? Tribute? Laziness? Coincidence?

Also, why are all the women on Bob's Burgers voiced by men except for Louise? (By the way, Kristen Schaal is amazing. Thank you for sticking her in there.)

I absolutely love Home Movies and I am also a big fan of Lucy.

What has it been like going from such humble beginnings to the big time (FOX)?

scale is much bigger, as you can imagine, in terms of how many people work on the show. they're organizing a softball team right now - some of the bob's writers and crew - and on other shows I've worked on we wouldn't even have been able to a get a two on two basketball game going.
not really, but you know what I mean. budgets and people are at least 5 times as big if not more.
but more importantly is the amount of time per episode. you get to touch each episode longer and more on network. very satisfying, if you like that kind of thing.

itsa!!!
yes and no to your first question. fox develops more like AS now, which is to say they'll give you some money to make something - a demo (in our case we made 11 minutes I think) - so you're not just developing on paper.. though they pay a little better during that early phase, which is helpful. on any show, when development drags out for a year or more, which frequently happens, you don't want it to be a year where you qualify for foodstamps. which in itself, is not terrible, but it's nice to avoid.

2. Anything in particular we can expect for the second season of Bob's Burgers?

somewhat bigger stories. better looking animation. hopefully just that simple pleasure of a show getting into it's rhythm and characters coming into their own.

3. Is it any coincidence that Ollie and Andy Pesto are highly reminiscent of Walter and Perry?

no, no coincidence. I am, hopefully not unlike yourself, a fan of Walter and perry. we wanted to borrow some of those characters' charming traits without cannibalizing too much.
because they are twin brothers who are voiced by girls (laura and sarah silverman) we felt they would fill out their own weird shoes, without offending/distracting home movies fans.

yes, we had him in to the studio for Katz and for home movies too I think. (had him in saddle rash too, as Todd barry's brother, which I loved so much - those two together). he was really nice and friendly. I remember in parictular one time he had a corn cob pipe and he went outside to smoke it. that was pretty charming - mitch hedberg out in the parking lot smoking a corn cob pipe with his girlfriend (whom I think he later married).

fictional!Brendon Small is apparently some kind of author-avatar for the real-life Brendom Small (i read somewhere that the part about making home movies was drawn from Brendon's own childhood). Other characters are frequently named for their voice actors, so my question is: Are the character's personalities also inspired by their VAs'? And is there a Loren character in the show?

With every season of Home Movies it got better and better. It's one of the few shows I can look back on and not feel disappointment at how it changed. It's fudgin' perfect.

Also, Bob's Burgers is excellent. I really like that I felt skeptical at first, and after watching the first episode I immediately changed my mind. I simply love it. Have you ever considered a cameo of Coach McGuirk? Just take a moment to imagine the epic back and forth between him and Bob. Yeeeeaaa.

Having spent the past few weeks re-watching Lucy, the Daughter of the Devil (which I consider a mini-classic), I can't help but wonder where it would have gone if you had been given the go-ahead for a second season. Personally, I loved the horror film spoofs, but I got the impression that the network wasn't too big on them. What were the stories that wanted to tell, but didn't get the chance to?

Are there any squiggle-vision plans for the future? I was always a really big fan of that animation style. I couldn't tell you exactly why, it might have seemed a bit more... I'm not sure of the word I'm looking for. It just looked like there was real human effort put into making the show.

I absolutely love you, home movies was one of the best shows I ever saw. It was simple and funny. I loved the family, and brendon reminds me of myself when I was younger. Where did you get the idea to have squiggle vision? I loved the sort of jokes that were used, and where did you get the idea for the Coach?

couple questions about the relationship between the actors and their characters...
I love taking about this because the actors are the engine in all of the shows I've worked on. it applies to everything, including how the characters are developed. in many many cases we cast first, then create the character. back in the crazy nineties we also often used their real names though this is confusing ultimately and I'd advise against it.
but same name or not, you want those actors to OWN their character, at least creatively, if not legally.
you get ideas from elsewhere obviously - the idea of a soccer coach named mcguirk, for example, that wasn't something Benjamin came up with, but the essence of mcguirk was from him, if that makes sense. we knew a little about the character before jon got in the booth, in other words, but we knew a TON after he stepped out.

I'd love to put something together. remaster the tracks or remix?? it's so hard to know how many people would want something like that, though. you might be the only one.

I would probably pick that up if it ever came about. I dont use iTunes tho so I hope it comes in Compact Disc for.

Or maybe one of the interns can make me a killer mix tape.
