sorry for the long-time-no-update.
i was hoping for some good news - ANY good news - but there is none to be had...
lucy, the daughter of the devil is not going to be renewed on adult swim.
it won't be a half hour, it won't be a quarter hour, there won't be a pilot, and there won't be any more wait-and-see. it's dead. it died of natural causes, i guess you could say. a few weeks ago.
i've been putting off leaving word here because this feels REALLY final, writing to you.

i think adult swim undervalued and under-appreciated the show, but i don't want to complain about them here. they never saw this show as a perfect fit, so we were on borrowed time from the beginning. it would have been nice to get the home movies treatment - to do a few seasons and make some DVD's and grow an audience, etc. but those opportunities are very rare. it's a right time right place kind of thing. i doubt home movies would get the home movies treatment, if we pitched it tomorrow.

i want to thank adult swim, ultimately, because the 11 episodes that we made are exactly the episodes we wanted to make. and where the network did put their fingers on it,  they made it better. mike lazzo and nick weidenfeld both had insights into the show in the early days that i would have missed if i was developing it by myself (remember, all i knew in the beginning was that i wanted to spoof the omen 2). it was only at the end of this last development cycle or whatever you want to call it, that we had creative differences, and even then it was differences amongst friends for the most part.

will there be a dvd? i'm hoping that's a question that some of you will ask...
we'll make sure that there's a DVD. i don't know what kind of a battle that's going to be, but short of the show getting picked up by someone else (SO unlikely - forget about it. really.), i think a DVD is the best way to honor the first season and hold open the possibility that people who haven't seen it might find it in the future. so i will fight, hoof and tail, to make it happen.

if you're reading this, i can't tell you how much you mean to those of us who worked on the show. if i even tried it would be embarrassing and gunky. but you don't wanna hear about that, you wanna talk about lucy, which is great. so...

i'm really sorry we couldn't make a second season happen. you deserved one, the show deserved one, the characters deserved one...

I just hopped on that site, upon seeing Funky's signature. I figured I'd come in here and offer my condolences.

Its seems [as] has been doing that a lot lately - cancelling shows because they aren't definite successes, instead of giving them time to grow and develop a fanbase. I'm not happy with it, and it's probably not a fantastic idea, on their part. The shows they have now that are successes were given more of a chance, I think.

I hadn't tuned into AS for a couple of years until Lucy. Now I think I will give it another long hiatus as there's nothing left that interests me. Seriously, how can they justify some of the other crap they put on and not even let LDotD put a meager 11 more episodes..

Thats what TV networks do when the ecomony goes down the drain. They'll try to make as much money as they can from only their most consistantly high rated shows. Otherwise, we would have seen a second season of Stroker & Hoop.

I hate when people who are dicked over by stupid talentless executives refuse to bad mouth said executives, call them out for the worthless wastes of spaces they are, especially Mike Lazzo. It's how I roll and I have networks begging to air the shows I'm working on, but I say, no, your piece of **BLEEP** network is not good enough to air Hang Ten Nazis or Adventure Squad or Single, Female President or Untitled Captain America Project, now go die!
